About Campground

**Indulge your Wild West fantasies near the Benson KOA, in a quiet, high desert valley just off I-10**

Benson is the gateway to Tombstone, Bisbee, Kartchner Caverns and Chiricahua National Monument. Apache Chief Cochise's stronghold is nearby. Tombstone hosts daily re-creations of the infamous O.K. Corral shoot-out. Tour an old copper mine near the Mexican border in Bisbee, where steep hillside streets and Victorian buildings evoke the mining boom days. Tour Kartchner Caverns and drive or hike past weirdly shaped rock formations in the Chiricahua Mountains. Pool: April 15- Oct. 15. Max pull thru: 70 feet. Your hosts: Larry and Katie Hall.

We stay at KOA's frequently (it makes traveling as a family of 4 affordable). There are a few that are amazing, a few to avoid, and most are just ok. This one is ok. It's nearby some cool things, is peaceful, and has kind workers. However, the cabins need help. First time we stayed, on a 30° night, the heater proved to be broken and we were freezing. No discount offered. The second time we stayed, in warm weather, the bed was so decrepit that it squeaked with literally every movement. So much for sleep! The playground is a little lacking, too. The restrooms are clean, the store is organized, and the location is peaceful. Would be way better for RV or tent camping, though.

Perhaps I am spoiled by State Parks and other spacious private campgrounds. I feel like I am in a closet at this campsite. My rear view is a KOA cabin, feet away. I feel confined in all directions. I hear total conversations of my neighbors. Give me some space please…The WiFI is very slow, not meeting my expectations.

We rented the little cabin. Rooms were clean and similar to the other KOA we stayed in Las Vegas NM. This one slightly better though. Had a TV and the heater was a fake fireplace which was great at night because it threw off just enough light so you didn’t have to turn the light on at night.

Washrooms very clean. However it appeared it was recently renovated. They used quality materials but the workmanship was questionable. The stall and shower doors would stay ajar. Like wide open ajar. You had to close them to get by.

Finally the prices seem high for what you get. A hotel is almost the same price. People rent these for different reasons, but for us it wasn’t really worth it.
