The Prior Flat Campground has 15 campsites and a vault toilet on about 9 acres. It has one pull-through, picnic tables, fire rings/grills and parking spurs. The campground is located at the foot of the Shirley Mountains, a remote range in a large basin between the Medicine Bow and the Ferris Mountains. Visitors will enjoy the aspen, limber pine, lodgepole pine, big sagebrush and can view pronghorn, mule deer, elk, coyotes, grouse and golden eagles. The Shirley Mountains offer fantastic hunting opportunities and fishing in Sage Creek. Typical use season is from June 1st through November 15th because the roads become impassable after heavy rain and snow melt. No horses allowed in campground.
From Medicine Bow, take WY-487 North approx. 21 miles, turn left on WY-77 for about 9 miles. Take County Rd 102 West for 9 miles to the Shirley Mtn Loop Rd (BLM Rd 3115). Campground is just up the hill about 1/4 mile. From Leo (north of Kortes Dam), go south 1 mile on BLM Road 3112 then east 13.5 miles on the Leo-Shirley Basin Road (County Road 102).
For what it is, its excellent. Vault toilet and no water but nice campground in a pretty location at the transition between open sage brush plains and timbered hillside.
Stop here while riding the Wyoming bdr nine of us riding motorcycles camped here at the end of the trip the fellows said this was there favorite campground. Seen antelope+ 3 eagles .
I stayed here for a week. Most days and many nights I was the only one in the entire campground. It was beautiful, and quite peaceful
Great campsite. Several sites for RV's/tents with picnic table and fire ring. No water or electric, just a vault toilet, so be prepared for that. We had cell service, though I don't know if that is common. Everywhere else around the campsite, for miles, was a dead zone as far as cell service. It can be noisy with vehicles going up and down Shirley Mtn.
Nice wooded camp sites. Vault toilet. Quiet. Road goes into the mtns from the edge of the campground. Very convenient.
