East Star Lake Campground, sites 1601-1630, is located in the central portion of the state forest on the southeast corner of Star Lake. The 1,206-acre lake is well known for excellent fishing and swimming. The campground has two vault toilet buildings, two hand pumps for drinking water, and a large area to access the water. There are separate trash and recycling dumpsters near the campground entrance. The boat landing is adjacent to the main camping loop with a vault toilet building, a hand pump for water, and a parking area. Two of the vault toilet buildings in this campground are ADA accessible. All sites are on a first-come, first-served basis. Located in the Northern Highland State Forest, an entrance fee is required.
Very nice campsites. Tornado came through last year so plenty of wood down if you are willing to get it. Clean non smelly bathrooms. Pumps have potable water. Good prices. Swimming area is sandy all around. Great lake, super clear clean water. The parks lady was super helpful and nice. Absolutely recommend hiking the West Star Lake Nature trail. The boat ramp is well kept and easy to launch. There are 3 water pumps here. A gem here is the walk in sites. Its no more than a 100 or so feet to sites right on the water and clean bathrooms really close by. Despite Star Lake being quite big the landing and campground was really quiet( weekend and 90 degrees) Highly highly recommend. Great for family, couples, seniors, kids, you name it. Coming back in the fall for sure!
Clean and quiet. One of the prettiest lakes in the state. Note that this is a rustic campground. If you need electrical hookups and flush toilets to camp you are SOL. Generator use is allowed but with very limited restrictions. It is also NOT a partying campground. Even on weekends it is quiet by 9:00 or 10:00.
As of 2022 reservations are required. However if there is an open campsite you can reserve the day of on your smartphone or at the Crystal Lake Visitors Center.
Fun 4 day/3 night camping trip with family. Our site felt really close to the neighbors as seen in the picture. Unfortunately due to the tornado mentioned in other reviews the privacy in some of these sites is lacking. Bathrooms did not smell terribly as do some other pit toilets. They were kept very clean and stocked.
