Awesome semi-off-grid campsite with minimal to no cell service and latrine style bathroom/outhouse.

Horse hookups and steel rings for fire/cooking when permissible (posted by local authorities so check in on that before you burn).

I visited here in April '22 to find the campground closed, apparently since October. While I have never camped here, I would definitely recommend this spot to campers who don't mind being off the beaten path. Some of the campsites have amazing locations, and even the worst ones look pretty good. Seems like some of the spots need some work (picnic tables getting to worn down, etc.) The bathrooms looked on the rough side, didn't go in.

Upside: Capitol State Forest is a paradise for bikers, hikers, horse riders, ATVs, dirt bikes... Definitely stay here to get away from it all for a few days with some fun recreation in the deal. Also be careful - you'll notice lots of signs related to firearms. There are plenty of gun ranges in the area; you're bound to hear them.

We took our 6, 10 and 17 yr old with us camping here. It was a beautiful drive in and we enjoyed our two nights. The little creek next to us was fun for kids to play in.

Great space, though it's a bit of a drive to reach it. If you are not comfortable driving over gravel roads or on wiggly windy roads, consider getting someone else to drive it, though taking it slow, it's not too bad at all. There is no service out there so prep anything you want beforehand, including your map to and from!
