Located near the Chiwawa River at Rock Creek this campground is approximately 15 miles up the Chiwawa River Road #6200. It offers 7 long pull-through spurs and horse facilities. It is wheelchair accessible. The Basalt Ridge Trail #1527 and The Rock Creek Trail #1509 are accessed from this horsecamp.
From Leavenworth, WA, take U.S. Rt. 2 west 14.1 miles to Recreation Area /State Route 207 signs. Turn right at signs onto State Rt. 207 north and go 4.3 miles to a "Y" intersection. Bear right onto Chiwawa Loop Rd (Forest Rt. 62) and go 1.2 miles to Chiwawa River Rd. Turn left and go 14.8 miles to campground on right.
Beautiful loop of camping spots. The spots aren't ideal for tents, with the gravel/dirt mix, but it works. Lots of ant hills in the camping spaces so be careful of where you set your tent down. Also with this being a Horse camp, there are small areas behind the campsite that have some old hay bedding and poles to tie up horses. There are picnic tables and fire rings with cooking grates attached. (as you can see in one of my photos)
Remember to always bring some type of bug deterrent because you will be bit. This area does get a slight breeze, and the bugs go away after sun set, the standing vault toilets are clean and stocked with toilet paper. (just remember your flashlight)
