About Campground

Volcano Peak Campground is dispersed camping at its finest. It’s located in the Silver Island Mountains in northwestern Utah near the Bonneville Salt Flats. Instead of trying to set a new land speed record on the Bonneville Speedway, set up camp and let the tranquility wash over you.

This secluded area makes it a perfect environment for everything from lizards and birds to bighorn sheep and coyotes. If you’re the adventurous type — and if you end up here there’s a good chance you probably are — it’s a steep climb to the summit of Volcano Peak, but the reward is worth it.

Dispersed primative camping. Good for car camping Not a great place for ground tents - very rocky terrain. At a minimum you'd want a good thick ground mat under a tent.

Unfortunately, another victim of the "trash the planet" nomad overlanding life. Lots of dog poop, trash, broken glass, toilet paper etc. at the camp sites I walked around. Please clean up after yourself and your dogs or stay home.

I love spending time at the Salt Flats and in the Silver Island Mountains. There are tons of campsites to choose from. Be prepared as there is no shade and no water. The stark desolation of this place is what makes it so darn cool. Be sure to try driving on the Salt Flats if they are dry, it is an awesome experience!

Great campsite to be away from everything. Flat ground and all the hiking you can do. Bring everything you’ll need.

There's not one specific campsite.. Everywhere is a campsite out in those mountains! Had a great night star gazing and overlooking the salt flats. Really quiet and secluded spots all over. The deeper you drive. The better.
