Winhall Brook Camping Area is nestled in the Green Mountains of Vermont along Winhall Brook and the West River, seven miles from Ball Mountain Lake. The campground has strong appeal to the outdoorsman at heart, offering hiking, biking and fishing opportunities in a beautiful natural setting. Recreation The campground offers several waterways in which to fish and play. The West River and Winhall Brook are home to brook, rainbow and brown trout. Hiking and biking are popular summer activities with cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The trail connects the villages of South Londonderry, Jamaica and Townshend. Ball Mountain Lake is nearby with fishing, boating, hiking and scenic overlooks. You can access the lake at our car-top boat launch which also provides shore fishing access. Hiking trails offer great views of Angel Falls to the north and Hamilton Falls to the south along the West River Trail. Water is released from the dam to create whitewater opportunities for rafting and kayaking the first weekend in May and the last weekend in September. Excellent campground with hot showers.
The lean to sheds are very helpful for an extra bit of cover/shelter from the elements.
Firewood for sale from the ranger or you can find it on the ground on the woodlands.
The grounds next to the river are particularly beautiful!
Highly recommended and we'll be returning next year!
This is, by far, our favorite campground visit of the year. The bathrooms/showers are kept clean. The water pressure is excellent and the water temperature is good and warm. Not quite hot. Everything is kept well mowed and trimmed. Scenery is second to none. Absolutely gorgeous. Cell service is spotty at best. Most sites are without utilities. But some can be had in the south loop. Dumping station is easy to get in and out of.
Great campground with firepits, picnic tables, a playground, and bathrooms to use.
The only issue I had was the women's shower floor felt like it was going to cave in at any moment.
Other than that, great campground! The guy in the office is very nice too!
Our favorite Campground! It's a 3/4 "dry" Campground (bring in your own water and no electric) but a few sites with water/power on South side. But it's beautiful!! Spending our days outside in a wonderful location, bath houses are cleaned twice a day with large outside sink to wash any pots/pans you may have, grounds are kept maintained and we use the river to stay cool. Plan on campfires, good food, good friends and great memories!!
