From Jamaica: Go 1/2 mile east on Depot St. The weight limit for the town's bridge leading into the park has been downgraded to 8 tons. Be sure to check the weight of your RV or trailer unit!
My wife and I recently visited this location and it was perhaps my favorite stop on our entire New England vacation. We visited in October and it was quiet and serene. I sat by the river for an hour and a half just watching the water sparkle and listening to the peace. I loved that I can get out and sit in a chair and smell pine and not hear any noise other than the nature. My wife hiked a beautiful trail and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy meals as an individual or as a family.
Beautiful hike. First two miles on a flat, easy trail that was once a train rail. Then a little bit of an uphill, somewhat rocky hike to the falls. Very pretty place to stop. Probably more so when there’s a bit of water on the falls.
We camped here for the Juneteenth holiday, so a little busy the first day, but then quieted down. With no hook ups for RVs and no internet service, you really cut down on louder groups. There is wifi at the gatehouse, so you can look up anything you need. They also sell wood, fire starters (campground lore is they are made by Yankee Candle), and ice. There is also a friendly general store just outside the park. What we really loved about it was that it was perfect for camping with a toddler. We intentionally chose site #20 because it had a big rock to climb on and she loved it. The West River trail is flat and wide for shared use. The playground and swimming area were also great for kids. We did all the hikes (Overlook, Ball Mountain Damn, Hamilton Falls) in our two nights there. Also of note - the campground staff were all insanely friendly and helpful. Listen to them when they warn you about the hungry chipmunks!
I absolutely love this camp ground. I fell in love with Vermont here this past week. Camping is tough work. This place has everything you need. The staff are great. Found a new friend here in Jeremiah. Sites are clean and well kept. So much to do. I was alone but this place is a family campground. Kids everywhere. It was so much fun. I can't say enough and can't wait to go back.
