From New York, Pennsylvania, or the South and West: Take Interstate 81 to New Market. Follow Route 211 East. Turn left at Route 652/Airport Road (immediately after the Rainbow Hill Gift Shop and Restaurant on right). Note, if you intend to go grocery shopping, continue on 211 East just half a mile more (The Food Lion Shopping Plaza and Wal-Mart Super Store are on your left). Return west to Airport Road, continue 2 miles on a winding road around the airport, turn left at the stop sign at Bixlers Ferry Road.
I went camping at The Country Place with my boyfriend and a large group of friends (13 total) and had a great experience. We were astounded by the amenities: a dishwasher, three fridges, large grills, a screened in dining area complete with a T.V., ping pong, basketball, and a path down to the river. This place was amazing. The best part of this place was the nightly visits from the owner, Gayle. Every night she came to ask if we had everything we needed and to tell us about the facilities. The last night we stayed, we even got to hear about the amazing life she has lived and her interesting family. Some of my friends have camped across the United States and Canada. Even they were impressed at all The Country Place has to offer. I would absolutely recommend camping here and can't wait to go back. If you're considering it, just do it! You will not regret it.
We have been going camping here for years. We love the location by the water and the shade the trees provide. The place has changed over the years, the owners added so many camping sites that it is getting so crowded. People are right next to you and they can get really loud. Last time we went the was a group that literally had a movie playing on a big screen and blasting the volume at 11pm. No one came to tell them anything, we had to go there and say something then they lowered it. Also they keep jacking up the price it is up to $35 per person! Which should be$35 per car or tent. The owners need to fix the camp and more clean porta potties for the price they are charging.
I was part of a large group that rented the Base Camp this past weekend (June 17 - 19 - 2016) and we had a wonderful experience. 78 degrees, low humidity and sunshine didn't hurt either!
The Base Camp is equipped with showers, toilets, a screened room, kitchen and outdoor grill that can handle steaks for 75+ people. The grounds were tidy and the owners were attentive but not hanging over our shoulders. There are many different areas to camp and there is a good combination of sun and shade. Our group included 50+ kids and all had a blast the entire time we were there.
There is river access and an outfitter that is 2 minutes away if you want rafts, canoes or tubes. The camp is on a beautiful section of the river and the water was clean.
I can't think of one negative thing to say about our weekend. Our expectations were met 100% and everyone in our group would like to return next year.
I'm not a fan of online reviews but after reading some of the other negative posts (most related to cabins) I felt I should provide some honest feedback of our experience.
The place was amazing. I definitely recommend any family to go. It's private, the view is beautiful and they allow pets which is awesome. They have 2 beautiful horses that are peaceful. The amount of space is great since you're not too close to anyone. Thanks Don (awesome person who attended us with open arms), Gail (wish I met you) and Ben (helped me with directions and was super helpful) for making this experience amazing. My family and I appreciate each of you. We will be going back again :)
Beware of schemy sales tactics! Our family wanted to rent a place from these owners for a weekend in June. AirBnB had the dates available for our family of 16 that were going to spend time together after our grandmother died as her last wish. I waited a day to book it and after my sister contacted them via the website all of a sudden they said oh it’s a holiday weekend because Juneteenth was that Monday and we MUST get all 3 nights if we wanted to stay. Juneteenth is a new federal holiday that most people do not even get off work, unfortunately. The owners wanted to take advantage of that to get someone to rent a third night. The ads did NOT state that until after I pointed it out. When I questioned this I was told to just be glad they haven’t raised their prices. Like I should be grateful that they are trying to take advantage of people. I will not stay with these owners at any of their locations after this interaction.
