About Campground

Holiday Park sits on the western edge of Benbrook Lake in north central Texas. Visitors enjoy hiking and horseback riding trails, a fishing pier and a sandy swimming beach. The park is also where the Fort Worth Thunderbirds, a radio-controlled model airplane club, fly regularly. Spectators love watching the scale model planes. Natural Features: Benbrook Lake is on the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, within the Grand Prairie region of Texas. Its just southwest of the Fort Worth metropolitan area. Recreation: Prevailing southwesterly winds on the lake attract plenty of avid windsurfers. Fishing, hiking, fossil hunting and boating are also popular. The lake record for largemouth bass is over thirteen pounds. A foot path from the campground leads to a nature trail with a photography blind. Visitors can spot bluebirds, kinglets, woodpeckers and Carolina chickadees. The trail continues for 14 miles, offering hiking and horseback riding. Facilities: Holiday Park offers a variety of sites, including equestrian, shelters, tent and walk-in only sites. There are plenty of wide-open spaces for activities, and boat ramps, docks and fishing piers help visitors enjoy the lake. Nearby Attractions: Fort Worth’s renowned Cultural & Museum District, Stockyards National Historic District, Botanical Gardens, Zoo, Bass Performance Hall, and Sundance Square downtown, are all nearby.

Nice quiet wooded park many sites on the water. Not as nice as other COE campgrounds we've stayed at. Bathrooms were substandard . The one nearest our site (74) was dirty, paint peeling everywhere, men's side was closed. Main bathhouses were not much better. Glad we were self contained. No water hook ups so we filled fresh water tank before getting to site and were able to get through 5 nights. Close to Fort Worth to check out the Stockyard .

Even though the water is way way down, we had a nice relaxing time visiting with friends and going for walks.

It would be really nice if they took care of the grounds and cleaned the restrooms.🤢 maybe mow the lawns and pick up all the human fecal matter at the campsites. Oh maybe clean up the trash? That would be nice too. The volunteer area looks like a homeless encampment .

Loved this park!! The quietness was SO nice! Lots of deer live here :)) Very large to explore and walk! Right outside Benbrook so very convenient to almost anything u need or would like! Added plus that it is an Army Corp Park and therefore gives a discount for the America the Beautiful Pass :) Employees were very kind and (for the most part) curtious and willing to help :) (one woman was just a grump ....when someone says "Hello. How are you?" You DON'T resond with "What do you want?" Especially representing a Park. There's just no need. She could have easily smiled and said "Fine. How can I help you?" ...glad I only had ONE interaction with her.)

Everyone else ALWAYS had a smile on their face!!

Park was built in the 50's. Most restrooms need serious updating but they are working on it! The bath house to the far right of the gatehouse has been redone and photo included:) which, was a great shower, btw, nice and hot!

Made it into Benbrook for some Christmas lights too!!

Had a weird thing while there though....

When I came into our spot the first thing I saw was a wadded up air mattress under the picnic table provided. I shrugged and pulled it to the end of the drive. Then went to hook up the electric and found a poo bucket that had to be moved for me to even plug into the box! Upon moving it, I realize VERY quickly there was "stuff" in it!!!

🤢

I walked it away from the electric post and continued on setting up. I told the gatehouse about it as we left for town. Told them I could and would move the mattress for him (older man...shouldn't have to pick up after others, understand it's his "job" but yall should JUST BE better!) to the dumpster that was right down the way but the poo bucket...well, that was ABOVE MY pay grade. I told him I wished they could go back on an old tenet that left things like that! Just shameful!! He said he wished they could too but that guy didn't "normally" do that...come to find out, people stay for the 2 week max then leave for a 16day minimum and come back for another 2weeks year round...so. we go to town. Come back. Mattress got moved to the trash. Poo bucket got moved..... to a different site where there appears to be a tent mishap.

OK then.

Continued on....gave my boy a shower in the camper and got him in bed... a bit later, I go to shower and there's NO water. None of the camper was working even tho it just did for my son not even an hour previous. I Google possible problems then went out to investigate. No leaks anywhere. Not under the camper or from the hose.

What I did find tho...SOMEHOW my spigot was COMPLETELY shut off. About 8 plus full turns.....

I'm no rocket scientist here but pretty sure the person that left his sh*t bucket and air mattress for others to clean up thought I pissed in his Cherios.

Great park, people should be held accountable and told to NEVER come back.

Crazy is as crazy does lol

Good news was: that's all that happened. Kinda funny now. Was a Lotta nerve wrecking then...like, will my tires be sliced when I wake?

Naw, just turned off the water on me 😅🫣🤭

This is a lovely, well maintained campground with numerous wild life sightings. The Gate Attendants were extremely friendly and provided excellent information about the surrounding neighborhoods. If you enjoy daily walks there is an easy to medium walking trail through the wooded areas. I camp in this park whenever I come to visit family and will absolutely return on my next trip back.
