Awesome place to get away in the middle of nowhere TX, San Angelo is an awesome community and the Rec Camp fits right in. Cheap, 15$ a day, rates, boat rental, swimming pool, long term and overnight RV spots.

Pool is open 1500-2000 everyday except Wednesday. Clean shower house over by the long term spots, long term are for 90 days at a time.

Marginal 4 stars. Prime real estate for a military recreation area. Especially in the middle of Texas. However, the RV sites are very Spartan. Especially the pull through spots on the south end. They only have electric and water hookup, no sewer. The 175 day people get prime sites with full hookups. Why is that? Why not allow transients those sites? Staff remember at the counter was friendly and helpful. The Wi-Fi is intermittent throughout the sites. The office is on the edge of the lake and there are no signs pointing to the office so it's kind of hard to find. However, for $15 a night it's hard to beat.

This park is not located on the base like most FamCamps. There are about 10 full hook sites and we were told there should be space, they don't take reservations. When we arrived, the full hook up sites seemed to be occupied by longterm folks. We went to the overflow with water and electricity only. No trees and dusty field area. The site didn't seem secure like military FamCamps. We couldn't complain at $15 a night and used the on-site dump station when we departed. No frills but gave us a place to stay to enjoy the San Angelo area.

First & foremost forget about getting a full hookup. These appear to reserved for only friends of the “the guy in charge” that are homesteaders. All the full hookups look as if the the campers have lived there a number of months. The one that was coming open on the day we arrived was occupied at 12:30 when we got there. Keep in mind these are supposed to be 1st come 1st service. After 2:00pm this camper left and another friend of the “the guy” moved in. And no they had not been waiting.

Now there is a printed paper in the office denoting no stay more than 90 days. That doesn’t seem to adhered to.

When checking in the young lady placed us in an occupied site in the temp area. We had to find an open site ourselves. No sewer. When asked some very basic questions, she couldn’t answer any of them. “The guy” came in to act as if we were squatters in his personal kingdom.

Upkeep is also a problem. Grass in the entire park needs to be cut. Looking somewhat mouse infected.

Bugs are bad. There was a giant ant mound at our site.

In the “temporary” area we were in, it is very loud. Major road next door with a 24 hr convenience store within a stone’s throw. For some reason the bath house is located beside the full hookup sites. So the people without sewer have to walk the furthest. The people with sewer and no need of the bath house are right beside it. No parking signs near the bath house. No hooks or towel rods in the bathhouse. The laundry mat has ONE operating washer & two dryers. The room & machines are very dirty.

We won’t be back. Numerous private campgrounds nearby that offer much better accommodations and they want you to be there. No “special people” that don’t have to follow the rules.

Camping at Goodfellow AFB Recreation Famcamp, Texas for two nights. A nice park that is located off base. There are two small parks, one with shade, one with no shade. It is located on a lake, has laundry room and a swimming pool. There is a gate that closes at night. Full hookup with 30/50 amp, great water pressure. Today only 50% of sites are taken. You can make reservations. $25/night
