Check-in was easy, there are a lot of hummingbird feeders on shepherd's hooks in front of the office so it is really nice to sit and watch them. No reception at the park, only spotty reception at times in our camper. I left my cell phone in our table and i would get some messages here and there but it was hard to tell where the reception sweet spot was. You can get reception at the visitor center and at the nature center.

The park itself is big but the campground area is small and limited. It's near the Mississippi River so you can go fishing if you like that sort of thing. I don't remember but there are approximately about 20 spots or so.

There is also Shelby Forest General Store, a quaint general store with a wonderful cook/owner. They have a good variety of items if you don't want to drive into Millington for any items.

We have rented a cabin one year and this year we tented in their campground. Both experiences were great. The parks are clean and park personnel patrol occasionally to make sure the area is safe. There is a land phone near the restroom with a list of park contacts if you have any concerns or questions.

There are two lakes and the Mississippi River in the park.

There is kayak and small boat rentals on the bigger lake, lots of fun!

Tim at the visitor center was very helpful. We rented a cabin on Poplar Lake. We would happily rent it again. There are record size trees, and you can drive down to the Mississippi. We went to see wildlife.

Great place. What a joy. Nicely taken care of. A true Gem. I cannot express how much I love this place for walks and nature. MS river is great. Just so much here. I felt safe, a big plus for the area. Cabins to rent. Maps available for free.
