Temples Lake Park is a day-use facility with over 60 picnic sites and one reservable group area on the southern shore of Belton Lake. The lake provides some of the best fishing and boating in Central Texas and the park offers amenities for large groups of up to 80 people, such as flush toilets, showers, a playground, a swim beach and two two-lane boat ramps.
Belton Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction of Belton Dam in 1954. The 12,300-acre lake is located on the Leon River, just upstream of the confluence of the Leon River and the Little River.
The facility is directly on the shores of Belton lake with mostly open sunny spaces, occasionally dotted with trees.
Deer, turkey and other small game are commonly seen, and a man-made wetland on the opposite side of the lake was constructed to provide an additional 25 acres of wildlife habitat in the lake area.
Temples Lake Park is a destination for boaters and anglers. Popular fish species include hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish and sunfish. Visitors can also make use of a swimming beach, volleyball and basketball courts and a playground in the facility.
The park has one group shelter called Temples Pavilion that must be reserved. There are also 62 picnic sites that do not need reservations. The park has excellent water access and convenient amenities, including flush toilets, drinking water and showers.
Belton Lake is located adjacent to the Fort Hood Army Base, which has several points of interest for the military buff.
The mural painted on the spillway wall of Belton Dam depicts the history of the Bell County area.
From Interstate 35 in Temple, Texas take the Farm-to-Market Road 2305/Adams exit. Travel west on 2305 to the park.
I love this place! 6 miles from my house. Clean water, no weeds. Charcoal bbq everywhere. 5 dollars entrance fee CASH ONLY, free for military.
Fun place to visit. The water is Very warm! The people are friendly, I spend about 5hours here. Will be coming back soon.
This park is great! There is lots of space for families to spread out and enjoy the lake. There is a limited number of covered picnic tables available but you can also bring your own shade.
If you plan to enjoy this park, please pick up after yourself, there are multiple dumpsters and no reason to litter on our beautiful lake.
Typically a great place for me to spend time. I usually go around 10am to noon or just pass so I can’t say how it may be thereafter or during busy times. Water is down everywhere but this has made for a vast soft sand beach for the most part. Nearly feels like being oceanfront. Clean enough, but I see that more as lake goers duty than park personnel.
Veteran friendly. I paid nothing to get in.
Definitely want to wear water shoes. The lake is filled with beer cans/bottles and such. Overall, the boats abide by the rules of how close they can get to the shoreline so it makes it safe to swim. (No lifeguard so swim at your own risk)
Great place to go walking and look at the beautiful scenery.
