The top is the goal! The hike up is a regular hike with not many "wow" moments. But it was cool to be in the rock. Not for those with a fear of falling.

My 8 year old probably would not have made the way up, it can be strenuous for a kid.

Hmmm. Followed hiking upwards directions and somehow missed it. I hike at a good clip and 3h 15 min in from base of crabtree falls towards spy rock and no spy rock to be seen. I started early but had to be back home in the afternoon for an appointment so I cut my losses and turned around. I was probably .5 to .75 miles away but I couldnt do it. I was banking on the 6hrs from everyones reports I read which was my total time coming back down and I hustled down running some parts. Some absolutely stunning views in November but seemed like a lot of guts with not too much glory even if I made it to spy rock. I would have rather hiked Old Rag. If I come back Ill drive up to the meadows parking lot and make it a short hike to summit, but will honestly likely explore other places before I come back. I enjoyed the descent at Crab Tree Falls thr best.

Great 360 visibility but it's a low peak so don't expect to see to the horizon.

Had it too myself on a beautiful Sunday. Trail up might be sketchy if it's been raining.

Great day hike with a nice 360° view but check the weather beforehand. Note: there is now an alternate access via Meadows Lane to the trailhead - not sure exactly when or why the other trailhead closed down. If you park at the Meadow's lane Crabtree falls parking lot, the trailhead for spy rock is about 0.5 miles away.

Hiker beware: Meadows lane ices over really bad and is impassable without chains (see pictures). My planned 7 mile hike turned into around 12 miles starting from Route 56. I would definitely recommend but it might not be the best hike in the winter due to the access road conditions.

The pictured map is near the summit.

The AT portion of the map which goes past Maintop Mtn is what you hike in and out on - eventually it connects to an access road and Meadows lane.

A stunning 360 degrees view of beautiful Virginia! We decided to do a challenging hike and via Crabtree Falls trail to Cash Hollow, out and back which is approximately 14 mi, 3.3K feet in elevation, and takes an average of 7 hours to complete.

You can drive up to Cash Hollow Trailhead and start there or there is side parking near the start of the hike. Well worth the hike and it’s definitely one of my favorites!! This is soooo underrated!!!! There are a lot of flies so bring bug repellent. Very rocky, lots of ups and downs.
