About Campground

Once the ancestral home of the Apache, and boasting a rich cowboy and cattle ranching history, to include gold mining, at Double R Guest Ranch we allow our gusts to relive some of that history and take a step back in time. The crackle of a evening campfire, the creak of a leather saddle, the sound of horses hooves underneath you as you explore the beautiful mountains of the ranch are what you can expect. Located in southern Arizona, our high desert vegetation features old growth mesquite forests, a variety of cactus such as the mighty Saguaro which is unique to our area. The ranch is surrounded by mountains offering spectacular views.

We tried, unsuccessfully, to book a stay with our 3 grandkids. As hard as they tried to accommodate us, we couldn't to stay there because they were completely booked during the only time we could go. (Good for them.) I'm giving 5 stars because they tried so hard to make it happen. Maybe next year.

We stayed at the Ranch for 4 days during our Honeymoon. I can not begin to tell you how amazing this place is. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted by the owner JP who made us feel welcome and comfortable.

Our room was beautiful, it was John Wayne themed, and every detail was thought of, the lamps had cowboy hats on as shades, the tissue box was western themed, even the light switches had a western theme. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

The meals at the lodge were fabulous, loads of variety, and plenty to eat, the bacon was exceptional, and now our new favourite in the UK, along with pancakes and maple syrup.

During our stay we made friends with other guests, and just enjoyed each others company, we spent many days round the pool relaxing, and spent the evenings talking, cuddling the baby goats, playing pool, and just generally relaxing. Everyone who stayed at the ranch we're welcomed, and we were all made to feel like family by the McCormick family.

The horse riding was my favourite time, I've owned and ridden horses all my life, but I've been without them for the last 10 years, so when we arrived at the ranch and I saw the horses, I was back in my happy place and I couldn't get enough of them. The rides were early morning due to the heat, but it was absolutely fantastic, going out at dawn and seeing the sunrise was just a fantastic experience, the same applied in the evenings, we rode watching the sun set over the mountains. The riding is done on mixed ability, and no matter what your level, there's something for everyone. The wranglers were all fantastic, very knowledgeable, and just lovely friendly people, they let me help untack the horses, and put them in the field afterwards.

One of our rides involved going to the old gold mines, where we stopped and had breakfast, that had been packed for us. Cayden the owners son took us on the ride, he was knowledgeable, and told us many stories, he made us laugh and we just had such an enjoyable time, this is definitely something I would recommend.

My husband went on the shooting range one of the days and did the ATV rides twice with Tristan who is also one of the owners sons. Tristan was again very knowledgeable and had a fantastic sense of humour. My husband loved doing both activities, and would also recommend.

On our last night Cayden played the guitar in the lodge, and sang Country songs, we all sat round listening and singing along with him, he was fantastic,

There is nothing negative that I can say about the ranch, it's very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. We were free to roam, and free to pet the animals etc.

I would 100% recommend this place, we are definitely coming back, and will keep coming back. I loved it that much that I cried from the minute we left, all the way to Las Vegas

We visited New York & Vegas during our Honeymoon, and the ranch was definitely our favourite

My wife and I went for the Horseback riding, and it was exceptional!

The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the ranch life.

Would definitely recommend to anyone!

I visited for approximately nine days in February. The rooms are a little bit dated and could use an upgrade, and while there was plenty of food, there could have been more healthy choices.

The wranglers were a lot of fun, and I certainly had some very enjoyable rides, but the scenery is generally the same no matter what direction you ride.

There was one incident where one guest was not put on an appropriate horse, and an accident happened. In this case, it was not the fault of the guest, as he did not overstate his riding ability.

It is not the easiest place to get to, but sometimes that has a real upside. I was genuinely surprised at the excellent cell service.

I found that they charged for many incidentals. When some of the other ranches I had visited, would include those incidentals in their base price. Stagecoach was definitely more expensive than the other three ranches I have visited in the past year.

One of the best trips I have ever taken…from the moment JP (owner) greeted me with “Howdy Partner” I knew I was home.

I felt like family from the moment I booked my stay…. Everything at the ranch was just perfect. The food was amazing. The pool was so refreshing the horses were friendly and easy to handle. The wranglers were so accommodating. All the animals on the farm were so well-kept and happy. To sum up my whole trip. I was scheduled for six days and I ended up staying for 13…… it was that type of place where you just didn’t want to go home and for me home was New York lol…. I’m already planning my second trip there with my third trip will not be far behind. If you want to experience a dude ranch where everyone knows your name this is the place to be hands-down…

It’s definitely a six star rating, not a five star…. Don’t miss the opportunity to come here…. It’s that good.
