I don't do campsites, but it's a great place for dispersed camping, hiking and horseback riding. The trails are very sandy and sometimes confusing which can get tiresome when hiking, but the varied plant and animal life make it worthwhile. There was a lot of trash on the east side of the forest. The west side is great. A lot of bugs (in May) and some poison ivy.

Went the week after Labor Day. Lots of sites to choose from. Overall, as we are self sufficient campers, it was nice. Quiet. We found enough wood there for evening fires. The box for payment should be clearly marked as it was assumption we put it in correct spot. Trails should be marked better. The roads could be better maintained as washouts were pretty bad in some spots. Not sure why spots are limited area for campers to park on each site? We checked 3 taps for water & none worked. Good thing we didn't depend on their water source. Bathrooms were within a walking distance but not cleaned. It was nice area though, glad we checked it out & will probly go again. It's a no reservation pay when u get there $14/nite. I heard the beach was close but I didn't see it.

Beautiful place for nice walks. Great trails with plenty of them. I bring my dog every time. She just loves sniffing everything, running through the woods like a freaking nutcase, and playing fetch down at the lake. The trail close to the beach is the most scenic. There is an old fire watchtower in that area. You can climb it and see a magnificent view of the lake.

Lakeside group campsite pictured, and the single car sites (not pictured) are remote, big, and well kept. Trails are clear in this group site, but poison ivy is abundant off trail, but does not get in the way of you enjoying the group site. You can hear motorboats on the lake, some car traffic occasionally, but is for the most part a quiet recluse for a getaway that's an hour out of the city.

Come here often. It’s great to swim for the day at lake Anne. The reason I don’t give this more is because they’ve removed the garbage cans from the beach and there is no upkeep of the bathrooms. People now use the broken bathroom for trash because again they removed the dumpster for visitors and just expect everyone to clean up (wish it was that easy). Lots of deer and wild life. Lots of foraging opportunities. The campground roads could use help, there are questionable visitors that over stay and make the place a mess. There are couples fighting the few last times we were there screaming at night and teenagers lighting fireworks off in the park. I don’t think people clean the fire rings out as often as they should, people end up bringing their garbage. It’s a fun beach day at lake Anne for kids or to go float and paddle board. Lots of pan fish. Loons are present too. There isn’t really a lot of trails, you could walk them all in a day. I wish there was more upkeep to the state forest because there are so many opportunities to explore. They really could use some help picking up the things people dump and making sure there isn’t glass all over. Again it’s a fun spot locally but I wouldn’t seek it out as someone looking for a camping trip expecting it to be like state parks. Lol
