This recreation area is part of Lake Francis Case
A great, free place to camp up the river from the public beach access area. Level sites with a reasonable amount of shade. Unfortunately, a bunch of kids party there once in awhile and leave a big mess...
The beach access and playground are not kept up well.
But there's free water and a dump station across the main street towards the other Recreation area, so hard to complain too much at the $0 price tag
DONT STAY HERE We stayed here for one night was great beautiful scenery and peaceful until after dark when two pickup trucks and two cars all without license plates front and back which I'm assuming we're locals from the reservation and what looked like 8 or 10 teenagers or early 20-somethings showed up for a tire burning (seen five tires stacked up through binoculars) beer drinking party and totally destroyed one of the very nice campsites. They didn't bother us or the nice family from Michigan camping next to us but was very uneased all night. Would not take the chance staying there again. Thought about it but Didn't bother calling the local sheriff since they have no jurisdiction because it's reservation land.
What a beautiful campground. It is primitive, without electric or water. Town is a mere 4 miles away. The rangers are so gracious and helpful. We will definitely return!!!
Beautiful view, quiet. Has a toilet, a graywater drain for pouring out dishwater or beverages, and a dumpster. Mostly clean, though there was scattered human debris (cig stubs, bottle caps, wrappers) in some spots. There is a bench at a nice overlook of the river; some previous jerk had left a cardboard box of traveler-trash in a fire ring. However, the location is well-maintained, and each site has a solid picnic table and a fire ring with a grill-over. Good for a picnic.
After reading the reviews we were a bit skeptical of staying here to be honest but once we pulled in to the area we immediately changed our minds! The areas were kept pretty good. Some littering but still very nice. The view is absolutely beautiful overviewing the river. We were able to catch the sunset and watch the stars. We were able to trail down to the river as well. There were a couple other campers when we arrived and a couple more arrived later in the evening. It's very peaceful. There were a couple locals that drove through but no one bothered us and the grounds people did make their rounds. There are bathrooms available but we didn't need to use them. Every campsite has a leveled park spot, a nice picnic table and fire ring with an attached grill available. Best thing was the view and it's FREE. Whenever we are back in SD we would definitely stop again!
