About Campground

Looking for seclusion? Redbank Springs Campground is located off the beaten path and offers limited sites for those wanting to be surrounded by the sounds of nature. Situated west of Deerfield Lake along Road #294, this campground only has four sites. This lesser-known location is rustic and is tucked away in a beautiful spot in the Black Hills. Sites are available first-come, first serve.

NOTE: Redbank Springs Campground Opens Memorial Weekend 2023. Campers at this location are advised that garbage services are not available in 2023 and this campground will be open with limited services at this time as the forest is in the process of getting toilets decommissioned/replaced. Campers will need to follow pack it in and pack it out procedures. Forest officials ask that campers be respectful of the campground, surrounding area, and leave it in good condition for the next user(s). If conditions create unsafe or unsanitary situations, the campground will be closed. Forest Recreation Management (FRM) – campground concessionaire - is not providing any operational services to Redbank Springs Campground in 2023. Hell Canyon Ranger District will be serving as the point of contact for any operational needs, management actions, or concerns related to this campground. District staff can be reached by calling (605) 673-9200.

Entrance is at Briggs Spring Road, is at the end next to the Reservoir. Google's position on the map is confusing. Secluded, no water or host, 4 sites and $10. Exactly what I wanted. Near a field that had Elk in it.

Nice little campground. Only 4 spots. Often fills up early. No reservations. Be sure you are equipped for off-grid camping (no power and no water). Excellent location for ATV riding. It does have pit toilets and fire rings. Bring your own wood.

This place is not even one star. My friend and i, two young girls arrived at 12:30 am last night and when driving up the terrible road, with no exageration, we were terrified for our lives. My car kept slipping on the gravel and almost going into to the huge ditch or off the edge of this extremely narrow road. The pot holes messed up the alignment of my car tires which made the drive worse and worse. There was no way to turn around since the road was so narrow. When we finally made it to the top there was only four campsites with no one else camping there. We were not comfortable staying there it overall was a very dangerous situation.

There is no service which is understandable it’s iffy everywhere, but they also had no signs of any sort of navigation into and out of the campsite. They also had no reflectors or signs notifying us when there was a turn in the road and there were a lot of sharp turns.

This was a completely terrifying and dangerous experience that could have been prevented by them if they were to close off the road for renovation, had lights or refltors, and signs.

I would not recommend going into this park or forest at all because there’s a huge chance you might not come out.
