Visited family here with family in September and again in January. I really enjoyed this campground. Very quiet and friendly! I look forward for me next visit!

My wife and I have got 6 kids and have taken them all camping since they were young. Some of the greatest memories we have (and them) are of our camping trips. Playing games, hiking on the trails, or just sitting around a campfire 🔥 laughing with each other, nothing better.

Over the past 8 years we have not been able to go due to life in general. With our youngest son now 13 years and hearing about all the camping trips from his brothers and sisters we want to ensure he had the same experience.

So we found this state park mainly due to it having an available spot on the dates we could go.

This was a hidden gem. We tent camp and prefer walking in sites. The site we had was next to the lake and quiet. The park is huge and has a lot of things to do. A day use area with swimming, tennis, beach volleyball, BBQ areas, boat access and fishing or you can just hang out on your site and relax. The park is clean and well kept. My son loved it and is already asking when we can go back. If you enjoy tent camping and want a nice park this is the place.

Also we did look at the RV/tent sites and they are nice spots as well. So if you are looking to make memories that no one will soon forget, all you need is a ⛺ , your family, and a nice place to visit. Calhoun State Park is a great place to make this happen.

We stayed in the primitive section, T1. T1 is very large, more private, & great views. It's 300 paces from the parking lot. Definitely a hike-in site. Picnic table is very dilapidated. T0 is also nice with more privacy. T6-8 are easiest access, but no privacy. T7 could launch canoe. Only 1 set of bathrooms for 14 tent sites, with no shower. You can purchase small firewood bundles from the park store, but we brought our own.
