From Jacksonville, OR, travel south for 6.5 miles on Highway 238 to Ruch, OR, and turn left on to Upper Applegate Road (County Road 859). Continue south approximately 14 miles to Applegate Lake and turn left on Forest Road 1075 and continue 8.5 miles to the parking area.
Beautiful place to go camping, but bring your Bug Spray or you'll get eaten alive!
Squaw lakes was (as always) amazing! It's a bit more crowded than it used to be which was a little rough on us as we go out there to get away from the people LOL but still worth the drive and the walk. The lake, day use spots, and all campsites are walk in only so be prepared to walk for about 20 minutes from your car to get to the water. Our campsite #16 was quite a ways away from the lake so I don't think we'll do that spot anymore but it was nice that it was also away from any other campsites. Site #16 is a group site with three spots for up to 15 people. It was only two of us but it was nice and roomy.
We drove all the way to the second lake, and camped in a little spot near the end gate. Perfect for 17 ft RV, which was ready to go for off-grid!
The Little upper lake is beautiful, and has many tent camping sites.
We then drove down to the main lake, and walked the 2-mile loop with the kids and the dog. There's 20 camp sites around the lake, all close to the water.
This place is such a gem! Perfect for kids, while still being in the wilderness.
We came the 1st of October, which is after the camp host season, but still amazing
