Situated in the hills and forests of southeast Oklahoma’s San Bois Mountains, Robbers Cave State Park has a history almost as exciting as the scenery and activities it offers. The park earned notoriety in the early part of the 20th century as a hideout for outlaws including Jesse James and Belle Starr. While the park recognizes this fame, today the park’s draw is as a family-friendly destination offering luxurious Robbers Cave cabins and campsites.
Campers can stay at 22 modern RV sites with full hookups, 67 sites with water and electric hookups, and 86 primitive camping along secluded trails. For those looking for a more cozy stay, the 26 Robbers Cave cabins offer stunning park views, as well as a full kitchen, a fireplace, television and a full bathroom (these make for a reliable stay at the park depending on the weather in Wilburton, OK).
Once you’ve settled into your stay, you’ll find countless activities in the park, enough to make you come back to do it all. There’s miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, swimming, fishing and paddling at the park’s three reservoirs and numerous creeks, rock climbing/rappelling, and guided tours through the historic sites that once hid outlaws from law enforcement.
Located 5 miles north of Wilburton on Hwy 2.
We did yurt camping for the first time here. We are experienced car campers, so we know enough about camping. The park is great! But the yurt we stayed in (#2) wasn't great. The other yurt, #1, is new, so definitely reserve that one. At least until they clean or replace #2.
It's described as having a keurig, so we packed accordingly. I think we should have been informed of that change. And while they provided us with coffee, we would have preferred our more flavorful brand.
There are a few other state parks we've stayed at that have yurts, we'll do one of those next time.
Can’t get enough of Robber’s Cave! My wife and I went there for the first time together on our honeymoon. We’ve been back every chance we get. We’re in awe every time we go! Feels like another country or even a different planet. Love this place so much!
Beautiful park with fun for all ages, we had our 3 little kids and parents. Tent camped at Lake Wayne Wallace and it was a beautiful spot. Tent sites were nice but not great if you have to sleep on the ground it's a little rocky. Can't wait to go back though and go on longer hiking trails! The cave and trail is a lot of fun as well, really good for bouldering.
Went for a hike while on a weekend getaway! This was such an awesome and also quick mile hike. It takes about an hour and a half, give or take, depending on how much you like to stop and sightsee as you’re hiking! We absolutely had a blast. Definitely a lot of great views and fun facts about the history of Robbers Cave and where it stands.
Very nice State Park with plenty of campgrounds, a lodge and beautiful cabins. There's a restaurant as well and a Nature Center/ Gift shop. Plenty of beautiful trails in the forest with spectacular views. There is a lake you can swim in. Plan a full day to enjoy the best of the Park.
Easily accessible.
