My family came to here mainly for the rafting but needless to say, we had a blast. The cabins are nice and homey with a rustic touch to it. Everything is within walking distance which was a plus. We enjoyed our time here as a family.
Had a great time. The river guides were helpful and nice. They took the safety of their party very seriously. The facility had a bar that you were able to walk to from your cabin. They didn't have a huge food menu, mainly just fried food. People were friendly. They didn't have many room/cabin options for pets. The only complaint I have is that the bungalow smelled like mildew/mold. It was very strong. Come to realize they dry the life vests in the basement of the bungalows. Good amenities. The pool was clean, although it was cold. Which after a hot day wasn't bad. Cute gift shop. The location was close to the bridge, park, and trails.
We stayed 2 nights in the Safari Tents near the end of July 2023. We checked in late because my daughter was experiencing some heat exhaustion earlier that day. I mentioned it as we checked in and the staff brought my kids each a freeze pop. Customer service was 10/10 during our stay. Also, the showers at River Expedition were the best from our our whole vacation. Private, temperature controlled, and clean.
We had been staying in our tent 10 days leading up to it and I thought this would be a nice upgrade. I was glad we did as we experienced some severe weather and felt a little more protected. The Safari Tents were on a slope which wasn't a problem except finding a level surface to put our grill.
We booked a river expedition on the upper river as my kids were 10 and 12 at the time and it was their first experience. The river gave them lots of confidence as they learned to navigate their duckies until the very end when nearly everyone got dumped into the river.
They aren't the biggest or most expensive outfitter, but we would recommend River Expeditions to anyone looking for some adventure in New River Gorge.
I loved this place so did the rest of my party. Within the cabin everything was great, it was a great getaway. Outside the cabin we had a grill and propane provided which was great. As for our rafting trip it was super fun. We rafted the lower gauley and it was great fun, our guide Alex made the trip way better than it already would’ve been. He was funny and great to talk to. I really enjoyed him as a person. I would highly recommend this place!
We drafted the lower New River with our daughter. She was 12 at the time and handled the trip very well. Our guide was friendly and fun. They have cabins and camping areas. There is also a large communal bath house. Nice clean outdoor pool. Pool tables are available in a nice game room. Restaurant/Bar had decent food as well. Our family has rafted with Rivers multiple times since it opened and at their previous location. Great family owned place!
