About Campground

New River Gorge/Dun Glen Group Campsite is located on the river, with access to swimming, fishing hiking and boating. The historic town of Thurmond is just across the river. This is a tent only group site. The campground is primitive, with no potable water or electric. There are pit toilets. There is no fee for use of the site, but a special use permit is required through the permit office at 304-465-6517.

Directions

From US 19 north of Beckley take the Glen Jean exit. Take an immediate left, and go 0.5 miles to Glen Jean. Take a right turn and follow signs to Thurmond on WV 25. (you will take a left at the first stop sign in front of a historic bank building, then veer left at the next intersection). Continue on Rt 25 for 6 miles to a three way intersection. Bear right. The Dunglen shelter will be on your left.

I recommend stopping in and enjoying the peace and beauty of this place. We just had the privilege to stay here almost 4 months. I loved it. The staff was always so nice and stopped to say hi if they saw ya! Prices are really great Also compared to other places I've taken my camper.

The water pressure was a little low at first, management fixed that right away. Located in rolling hills (with level sites) outside of Charleston & Sissonville. You will find this beautiful and well maintained jewel awaiting... along with your best rest and relaxation.

Lovely campground, delightful staff and we had the best behaved 4 legged neighbors due to an unfortunate breakdown of their travel vehicle. The road up is a bit narrow but well worth the drive. Our diesel pusher did fine. Would recommend blowing the horn on blind curves just as a precaution. We for sure will be back!!

Amazing customer service and stay experienced. Open all year. Was there for 8 mths. Very few problems but staff was very friendly kind, and helpful. Amazing ponds to walk or fish in. Other people very friendly and helpful. If your looking for a campsite where many activities happen this is not the place. This is a small and peaceful location. Road to get to campgrounds are challenging with large (mine was 40 ft) campers but doable if driving slow around turns. Close to city and highway. Low prices, full hookups, pool on property but did not go. Cell service is not the best with Verizon or AT&T. Never had a problem! Would recommend!
