Located only 8 miles southwest of Quitaque, Texas and approximately 100 miles from Amarillo, Pole Canyon Ranch is accessible yet remote from the busy outside world. The ranch is managed by Phil and Lynnette Barefield, who is the granddaughter of Jim Taylor, who established the ranch in 1911. He and his brother John rode their horses into this area in December of 1910 in search of land.
The ranch now encompasses about 6,000 acres of beautiful canyonlands with running water in several of the spring-fed creeks. Abundant game and beautiful scenery make each excursion a memorable adventure. Opening to the public in 2004, the ranch is now a destination attraction for folks all over the United States.
Outstanding property to go riding on. Some amazing scenery and riding challenges available for all levels of riders.
This is such a relaxing, well maintained, clean campsite. We love that there's electricity and water hookups with horse pens nearby. We will choose to stay here again soon! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We’ve been riding at Pole Canyon Ranch since 2014. It never gets old. 6000 acres of awesome scenery.

Both Google map & Apple map will not get you here. We’re working on that situation. NOTICE: This situation has been corrected on both Google Map and Apple Map. Type in POLE CANYON RANCH AND YOU WILL GET THERE.
Enjoyed an extra long weekend on a girls hiking trip. The ranch is beautiful and depending on how fast u hike and how many miles you cover in a day, the ranch probably has two days of good hiking with beautiful views, and amazingly diverse habitats. it is very near caprock canyon that offers superb hiking. It’s only about an hour or less from Palo Duro also, if you are into geocaching, there are quite a few in the area. The downside of staying at the ranch is you are not close to restaurants, but then that is the charm of it. The restaurants and Quitaque often don’t open as you would expect so you have to go to Turkey that is about 20 minutes away but it’s well worth it as the turkey hotel restaurant has live music and excellent food. We had a wonderful time and got to meet the owner. He was enjoyable to chat with.
Pole Canyon Ranch is obviously heavily geared toward equestrian use but as a hiker I still found it to be great place to visit. Being allowed to go offtrail and explore made it a lot of fun for us and we saw some beautiful scenery. Its about a 15 minute drive to Caprock Canyon and would be a good option if the park is full. As a plus, the showers and restrooms are in much better shape than at Caprock Canyon. The only reason for 4 stars is the tent camping area. Its just next to the RV area and there is nothing there, no picnic tables, fire pit etc.
