About Campground

Waxmyrtle Campground is an ideal spot for its proximity to the beach, several hiking trails, and the non-motorized section of open dunes with the comforts of sleeping in a standard site with paved parking, drinking water and flush toilets. Located just 7 miles south of Florence, Waxmyrtle marks the start of the Waxmyrtle Trail, which borders the picturesque Siltcoos River Estuary. Wildlife viewing is a popular pastime for campers. Portions of the nearby estuary are protected nesting areas for the snowy plover, a small shorebird with a tan tail and snowy white underside. Recreation The Waxmyrtle Trail offers outstanding views of the lower river estuary and the Pacific Ocean as it winds its way along the river to the beach. Other nearby trails include the Lagoon Trail and Chief Tsiltcoos Trail. Nearby off-road vehicle trails and open dune riding areas provide hours of fun for off-road enthusiasts. Facilities Camping is available from May 1 to September 30 and amenities include drinking water, a campground host, flush toilets picnic tables, fire rings, recycling and trash collection. Parking aprons are paved. Natural Features The campground is located near the Siltcoos River among Shore pine, huckleberry, and other coastal shrubs and conifers. Many sites are surrounded by a thick wall of coastal shrubbery, providing ample privacy from neighboring sites. The campground is part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, known for its wind-sculpted sand dunes towering up to 500 feet above sea level. Nearby Attractions Siltcoos Lake offers bass, cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing. ADA Access: N

My daughter and I are staying here for the 1st time and we will definitely be back. Water access (not for filling RV tanks though), several clean restrooms, and garbage dumpsters. Great trails for easy "hikes". Be aware, dogs are not allowed on the beach during the summer due to the Snowy Plover nesting during this time.

We stayed at Waxmyrtle July 15-17, space 28. The site was a lovely open site with plenty of sunshine all day and into the evening. Directly located across from the restroom and water. This campground was quiet most of the weekend and we enjoyed our time. It is not near the beach and the walk to the breach is beautiful but be prepared for almost 3/4 of a mile walk on dry sand.

Space 28 has plenty of room for more than one tent including a little hideaway spot. The parking pad fit two cars easily.

Chipmunks and blue jays were our min visitors throughout the weekend.

An earlier review indicated this spot had had storm clean up and lots of debris left behind however we did not run into this issue during our stay. We would absolutely return.

Nice campground. Some sites are a little too close to others to the point that you can hear everything going on next door through the bushes as if they were sitting next to you. The river is a nice relaxing paddle. At high tide, you can paddle all the way to the ocean surf although must stay in your boat due to Snowy Plover nesting. I would love to see a better launch for kayaks and SUP's like a small dock or ramp. It is difficult to get in from the muddy banks, more or less depending on the tide. Hiking trails

Nice little campground with kayaking access to the Siltcoos River. Good hiking trails along the river and out to the beach. Pick your site carefully as the parking for ours was so sloped you wouldn't have wanted it for an RV. The tent pad was excellent and the space was very private despite being right next to the bathroom.
