The park is located 11 miles southeast of Hudson in the town of Gallatin, NY. Passenger cars can access the park from the the Taconic State Parkway, one mile south of the Route 82 Hudson/Ancram exit. Visitors can also access the park from State Route 82, approximately two miles south of the hamlet of West Taghkanic. Large trucks, RV's and campers can enter the park from the State Route 82 entrance
Lake Taghkanic is high among my favorite state parks. I've been there both camping and on day trips. The campsites are your typical New York State setup— a picnic table, a fire ring, and a flat place to put a tent, with access to toilets and showers. Try to avoid the platform and tent sites in the inner loop if you want any semblance of privacy. The beach is man-made and well-maintained with four swimming sections, each with their own lifeguard and a nearby playground for ages 3-12. Bring your fishing gear if that's your thing, your hiking bootsfor the many marked trails, or a good book and a chair.
Day use is $10/car, camping starts at $27/night for a basic tent site.
You can't go wrong here on a sunny day. Having said that, I have been twice, and the park was at capacity. You may want to keep that in mind, if it's a really, really nice day.
Still an amazing park! And we love coming back summer after summer.
The restrooms are clean and modern. The lake and environs are incredible.
The one downside of this visit is that many of the BBQ grills are rusted through, and can't hold charcoal - it falls through the holes! Some are additionally tilted, so not so great for grilling.
I went here in late September, the off season. It was great. Such a peaceful place where I basically had the beach to myself. Swimming was not allowed as it was off season but the bathrooms were still open.
Kids had fun..the amenities provided by the NY state Park was one of the best across all the new york upstate parks very decent people and beach was really clean we spend good time the change room and other facilities well organized. Thanks to NY state park and recreation.
This place is very beautiful. Very relaxing and you sure so enjoy nature's beauty.
It was very clean. Only bad thing when we visited was no swimming was allowed but never the less we still sat on the beach and soaked out feet!
