About Campground

This is Boat In Campground 1 with 10 sites

There are 30 campsites at a total of 3 campgrounds on the Long Arm Peninsula available for paddle-in camping, accessibly only by boat. You cannot hike or drive to these sites. The sites are 20 to 150 feet from the shoreline.

Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, and a 24 feet by 16 feet tent pad.

There is no running water at the paddle-in camping area. Campers must bring their own water for drinking and washing dishes, etc. There are toilet facilities strategically located throughout the camping area.

Lake James State Park may have canoes and kayaks available to rent to access the paddle-in campsites. Please call the park before you arrive to check availability.

Campers who are bringing their own paddling equipment can park overnight at Paddy's Creek access — please obtain an overnight parking pass at the park office, fill it out completely, and display it on your vehicle dashboard. If you have a motorized boat, you can park overnight at the Canal Bridge Boat Ramp, which has 24/7 access.

Reservations are required for the paddle-in sites. You must make the reservation prior to arriving.

Beautiful state park with fantastic campground with nice level spots and very nice clean bathhouse.Dotty was the campground host and was exceptional . Dotty was there to greet us upon arrival and offer the information we needed for a lovely stay. The park offers a wonderful visitor center which sells t-shirt coffee mugs and candy etc

The park has a very clean swim beach which is $6 per adult when lifeguard is on duty and free if there’s no lifeguard. Hiking trails are available as well as a marina.

Came to Lake James for JR Ranger Jamboree and had a great time! The park is beautiful, the new visitor center is engaging and informative, and Ranger Eric taught us about life in the creek; including crayfish and Salamanders.

Lake James is a beautiful lake and park with a lot of easy walking trails. They also have a pretty big beach area for swimming. If you prefer fishing, there is a nice fishing pier. Plenty of shaded areas along the shoreline to relax in and enjoy your picnic lunch.
