FROM I-64, take US-13 (Northhampton Blvd, exit 282) East. At Diamond Springs road, turn left. Follow Diamond Springs to the end, then turn right on Shore Drive. Follow Shore Drive east about 1 mile. Gate 3 is on the left. ---- FROM I-264, take Independence Blvd (exit 17) North. At Shore Drive, don't go in Gate 5, turn left and follow Shore Drive west to Gate 3 (pass Gate 4 which is permanently closed). ---- ALL: When entering gate 3 bear to the right and use the commercial entrance - inspections are not required. After entering the gate, turn right at the light. The first two roads are campground exits, the third and fourth are entrances. Use the fourth entrance and follow it around to the campground office
I love how spacious it is between campers. Updated water and electric hook-ups, level concrete pad, no cable connection (we use our antenna), picnic table, bath house, and laundry. It's within walking distance to the beach (1.4 miles), NEX (1.1). There's no bike rental so if walking is not your thing, have alternate means. Uber is not an option on post. You'll have to walk to the gate (Gate #5, because gate #3 is not pedestrian friendly nor allowed). There's no fenced in dog area but, right across their entrance is a nice trail.
Now, this place could do better. I only wish I had hedge trimmer to trim the area around their entrance sign and street marker. Also, to trim areas of the trail that have informational placard in the nature watch trail across the street. Typical Navy base where infrastructure is not priority. But, we will definitely return to this nice and quiet place. Oh, and for public transit, you'll have to walk off base to catch the bus that runs every hour.
Update: we are back after a year. I'm changing my rating from a four start to a two star. This place has not changed at all. Still good for retirees but for Service Members that live in this park, it's a disgrace. Shower drains slow, when it rains, the streets floods. Ladies bathhouse door does not lock, and if it does, there's no code to unlock it. Only maintenance done here is grass cutting. Our active duty force deserves better. If this were housing, it would be in the news.
Great small campground. Walking trails nearby. Would definitely camp here again.
FHU sites, tight but nice, felt good being among fellow veterans! New to Famcamp but very impressed with ease of making reservations and level concrete sites! Free laundry, older bathhouse but adequate and clean!
Pretty nice wooded campground on the Little Creek Amphib base. It's pretty small but has over 45 full hookup sites, including cable TV, and some primitive camp sites also. The RV sites have level concrete pads, but the access roads are rather narrow so so if you have a long rig it can be difficult to get into the site. They do have a small shower house and laundry for longer term campers.
The campground is nice but a little dated. Most sites have water, electricity, and sewer. I would definitely come back again. Although you must have military ties, it's a great location to watch a sunset, get a campfire going, and listen to some music. Being on base gives you access to some many anemities without having to drive and search. Updated Feb 2024.
