This is my second stay at Old Cranks. Friendliest group of guys running it. CONVENIENCE It's a few blocks from Downtown--so access to anywhere in Galax is easy (and breezy--it's a windy city--which is good in the heat of summer.) Maybe about 20 spots (pull-thru) so even when it's full, it's not overwhelming. Reasonable price for full hook-up.

We're not "Resort" people. This cg is perfect for us. Gravel, lots of room, quiet, not crowded, pick your spot, register by blank envelope at the front door of the Museum. Enclose check or cash for stay and slip it thru the crack in the door. Be warned, if you pay with cash for a few days you may have to use multiple envelopes. We stayed 3 nights/$90 with discount and barely got envelope thru door crack. Never did see the "Old Crank" we talked to by phone. To bad this cg is not near our normal routes north/south, we'd make it a regular stop. And for a bonus we got to watch the first night of the Christmas light show in the park.

Great location, great price. Had everything we needed. Bathroom and hot shower. Lot was great and right next to a large park which we walked over to. Bathhouse was large and roomy, but a little on the dirty side. Might have been because we were here very early in the season. Slept here 1 night while driving through. Perfect for our needs!

We decided to visit Galax on a whim and to check out the New River Trail. I was drawn to this place because of the museum next door. Figured it would provide a nice diversion. The website seemed a bit finicky on mobile, so I called the listed number and left a message. They returned our call shortly thereafter and described their policies. So we were able to make a reservation for a same day visit on short notice. Rates were very accommodating. Bathhouse was clean but the shower drainage wasn’t level and there was some water into the main floor. The site is in Galax’s “industrial corridor” but overall it was quiet. It could use some shade trees next to the campsites, but the guide was very accommodating where to park for shade. Everyone I met associated with the park and museum were very friendly and helpful. Overall a hidden gem that’s tucked into a spot where you wouldn’t expect to find mobile lodging. Highly recommended. Would hope to visit again.

Easy access, level sites large pull thru sites. We stayed with 40 ft motorhome pulling 16 ft trailer. Nice campground $33 a night. Will definitely stay again.
