From jct US 129/441 & Hwy 16: Go 14 1/2 mi E on Hwy 16.
Stayed two nights and it is a wonderful camp ground. Lots of history in this place, wonderful camp hosts, and clean showers and restrooms. Lots of trials to hike but be aware of the ticks.
Nice. A lot of visitors were confused at Labor Day about where to go. I think they need signs for the direction to park access when you first enter. For park access, make the first left (Lawrence Shoals Rd) when you turn off of Sparta Hwy onto Wallace Dam Rd.
Great hidden gem. We went to see the effigy but was very surprise at how much this park area has to offer. From archery targets, trails, educational placards, great wildlife, to a great viewing tower. Past the Rock Hawk effigy, you pay a nominal fee you can enter the adjacent park with picnic areas, grills, swimming and bathrooms. Camping and even a boat ramp are available for an additional fee.
Have not had the chance to camp here yet. We camped at a neighboring campground, but came by here for a visit. The place was beautiful and the trails were wonderful. We took the orange trail and walked about 5 miles. It was beautiful all through there and clean. Also met the staff while looking at the campsites. They were so helpful and nice. Will be back after their renovations to camp at this gem.
