About Campground

Overview

Amity Recreation Area is one of the most popular parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. The large, 70,000-acre lake and its 1,000 miles of shoreline provide excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking.

Natural Features:

Hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters characterize this wooded area. A mixed pine and hardwood forest covers the site, providing summer shade and fall color.

Wildlife is abundant around the lake. Visitors might spot bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, osprey, wild turkeys and white-tailed deer.

Recreation:

Thurmond Lake provides some of the best fishing, hunting and water sports in the southeastern United States.

Anglers will find largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish and striped bass. The large lake offers endless boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, canoeing and swimming opportunities. Amity Recreation Area provides a boat ramp and swimming area.

Facilities:

This facility is a wooded day-use area on the lake shore. There are three reservable group picnic shelters that can each accommodate up to 92 guests. A boat ramp, fishing pier, swimming area, ball field and playground provide additional recreation opportunities.

Nearby Attractions:

Augusta, Georgia, about 20 miles away, offers museums, art galleries, zoos, restaurants and shopping areas. The Augusta National Golf Club hosts the Masters Golf Tournament annually the first week of April.

Directions

From Thomson, Georgia, take U.S. Highway 78 west for 6 miles. Turn right on State Route 43 and continue for about 7.5 miles. The park is on the right (look for signs). The park is located on the McDuffie/Lincoln County line.

Reserved a day use area for a church event. The host told us upon arrival(Blue Gill) to not use the bathroom by our pavillion because it was “vandalized” and to use the next one up. However the next TWO up were either in extremely poor condition (clogged toilets or filthy) or out of toilet paper. When we tried to approach the host to even ask cor toilet paper, they were nowhere to be found, either at their camper or at the building. We had to leave and use a gas station bathroom a couple miles away!!

In addition, when we arrived (at 10am) the trash cans at iur pavillion were already nearly full.

To pay $75 to reserve a day use pavillion and $5/vehicle for an event, this is ubsurd. The least this area could do is provide toilet paper and emptied trash cans!! While we enjoy the privacy of Amity pavillions and beach areas, I cannot say that we will use this area in the future due to the unkept conditions and unavailability of hosts to address the concerns.

Great boat ramp, the dock is a little bit away from the ramp. The facilities are very clean and plenty of room to park.

boat ramps are in good condition. restrooms are just out houses. not very sanitary. nor handicapped accessible. plenty of parking. fairly safe to leave your vehicles. parking is a little far from ramps, especially for handicapped. they do have a fish cleaning station.

This place isanaged by the Army Corp of Engineers and it has a charge of $6 for entry. There are many spots to drive down and park, offers a beach site, benches near the river or swings for seating. There are areas for boat landing, fishing and other recreational activities. It is located in Lincolnton, GA past Thompson, GA.
