This place is great for camping! Some buddies and I from college went here for a weekend and we are already planing on coming back again next fall! The tent sections are perfect and make you feel isolated, which is great for camping! Overall, I highly recommend going to Swede Point Park if you want to camp in Iowa!
We love exploring new campgrounds. We discovered Swede Point Park by reading great reviews from other campers. It is only 1/4 mile from the Des Moines river. It is a small campground but your campsites are not crowded and running into the people camping next to you. There are clean flush toilets and clean private shower stalls. A playground offers kids a play area and we also noticed a sand volley ball pit and a small basketball court. There are both electrical sites, group/buddy electrical sites and non electrical sites. Numerous walking trails and lots of nature to discover. Woodward is only a few minutes away and noticed there is a gas station and also a bar and grill. Also access points to the high trestle bridge and trail. The campground hosts were very friendly and were on site the entire weekend we were there. We can't wait to visit again!
This is a great place, with a fairly small number of campsites. Plenty available in midweek mid July but it did fill up by late Friday evening. (I appreciate that I called the campsite phone number a day before our arrival to check availability and someone answered the phone )We came for the High Trestle Trail, but were delighted to find the steep path down to the Des Moines River, and also an extensive network of mown grass trails through native prairie, including a blind with well stocked feeders to attract birds. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Bathrooms were fine, showers above average.
Easy to locate a walk-up site after finding Ledges was already full on a Friday afternoon. Debatably this was also a nicer experience, having an empty lot on both sides. The bathroom is well maintained and feels almost new.
Very quiet and relaxing place to camp. We only spent 1 night. Not much to do at the campground but the high trestle bridge is close. Took a short hike to the hidden meadow which was very peaceful. Camper pads are pretty level but a little close together for my liking. Didn’t use the bath house but area was clean.
