Pettit Lake Campground is located approximately two miles west of Hwy 75 on FS Rd 208. It is in a secluded area next to Pettit Lake nestled at the base of rolling hills and majestic peaks. Swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoeing are wonderful activities for Pettit lake. There are 9 single-sites and 3 double-sites which are all first-come, first-serve. Tin Cup trailhead leading into the beautiful Sawtooth Wilderness is located at the north end of the campground. There is a day use picnic area adjacent to the campground. Personal watercraft are not allowed on Pettit lake.
In Stanley, ID, at the intersection of State Rts. 21 and 75, take Rt. 75 south 18.1 miles to Pettit Lake sign. Turn right after sign onto a dirt road and go 1.6 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn right at intersection and go 0.4 miles to campground.
I arrived July 3rd, the first of a group of 8 ladies from Salt Lake City, UT. Driving up to the campground I was in awe by the views of the mountains, the streams, rivers, lakes, and campground.
As soon as I drove into the campground the host, Kelly greeted me with a huge smile and willingness to find me the perfect spot for me and the ladies.
Never in all of my camping experiences have I ever had a host that is not only 100% invested in his grounds but as well as his guests. I watched him closely. He knew all of the names throughout the campground. He would stop and visit multiple times to check on us. We connected and he is a friend for life now.
He kept his campground spotless. When I got there my spot was beautifully raked. It was amazing. He is amazing.
If you have the choice between any lakes in this area, you need to choose this one!!
Thank you Kelly for making our trip so amazing and memorable! You are the best!!! You truly are an awesome guy!
Beautiful spot to camp or hang out for the day. For the most part, the experience was all positive. The current rate for a campsite is 18.00. Looking around the Campground, it seemed a bit much. First, there is an inadequate number of toilets. In fact, there's only one in the camp area. An adjoining hiking trailhead parking lot has more but the stalls in the men's didn't lock nor did the outer door latch. Mildly concerning in bear country.
I noticed a couple of picnic tables in sites that were in poor condition. The beach space from the Campground is fairly limited as well. The road in isn't too bad, but a little rough at least in my car.
Fantastic dark sky's for photos, hiking, beautiful views, very near the water for recreation.
Small campground go midweek ,non holidays, fills up fast, good mtn. Biking right out of the campground and amazing wilderness hiking there too. Old school campground, dusty at dry times, small but not cramped unless the doubles are full. Good day use areas if you have to wait it out unlimited dispersed camping a half mile away.it was our guaranteed quick getaway spot any day of the week, but it's been discovered, go early in the day.
Absolutely gorgeous campground nestled between the picturesque lake and main trailhead to the mountains. Kelley, our camp host, was quite the character and boy was he on top of things. Every single time we needed help he would just show up as if I had summoned a genie. He got us squared away in a beautiful site and made sure it was freshly raked and ready for us to settle in. I think he knew everyone in the campground which is quite remarkable considering the churn of a holiday weekend. Anyway, if you're looking for a quiet place to stay with both lake and trailhead access, this is the spot for you.
