Macks Creek Park is a small campground located on the Boise River Arm of Lucky Peak Lake, just 25 miles from the Boise area and 4 miles off the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway. Visitors make the trip to enjoy quality recreational activities like boating, swimming and fishing.
The lake offers family-friendly outdoor recreation opportunities for both travelers and residents of the urban Boise area. Macks Creek Park offers scenic views and convenient access to lake recreation.
Anglers fish for rainbow trout, Kokanee and smallmouth bass. A boat ramp is located within the campground.
This primitive, small park offers a handful of campsites on the shore of Lucky Peak Lake. Clean vault restrooms, hand pumped drinking water and an emergency telephone are provided.
During the recreation season, volunteer camp hosts live on-site and can provide information and assistance to park users.
Parking availability is limited and there is no cell service at the lake. Two businesses within 10 miles offer limited food and services.
Lucky Peak Lake is located in the foothills of southwestern Idaho on the Boise River at an elevation of 3,055 feet. When full, the lake stretches 12 miles up-river, with 45 miles of shoreline and over 3,000 surface acres of water.
The campground is situated among shady trees along the lakeshore. The surrounding mountains are consistent with sagebrush steppe, dotted with sagebrush and bitterbrush.
A variety of wildlife lives around Lucky Peak, including bald and golden eagles, mule deer, antelope, red-tailed hawks, California quail and chukar.
Arrowrock Reservoir, operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, is nearby, as is the beautiful Boise National Forest. These areas provide additional camping, boating, fishing, hiking and sightseeing opportunities.
From Gowen Road (Exit 57) off I-84, head east toward South Federal Way. Continue to follow Highway 21 for 12.5 miles. Turn right on Arrow Rock Road immediately after the High Bridge crossing over the lake. Continue 4.5 miles on Arrow Rock Road to Macks Creek Park.
Awesome place to camp, close to boise! Head for lucky peak reservoir, keep right , past marina, about mile and sunrise! Had a great camp with my girls . Primitive sites does have fresh water and out house . Just beautiful!
Great campground perched along the side of Lucky Peak res. Traffic on the main access road is noisy and fast. They need to put some speed limits along the Mack's Creek section. Tent camping on one side of the road along the reservoir, RV camping on the other side.
Great place to camp and enjoy the lake, definitely making it a yearly family event.
We camped in the event park here. This was a very beautiful and peaceful park. Your are surrounded by mountain or hills. At night the stars come out in full. Loved the river and would loved to have brought a boat, but we were just passing through. Would like to come back and explore this area.
Macks Creek Park RV Campground, located in the outskirts of Boise, Idaho, offers a unique experience for lovers of the great outdoors and recreational vehicles. The campground offers a section for RV Campers that provides for stunning views - either while sipping your coffee in the morning or twilight views of the mountains and Lucky Peak Lake over a warm campfire.
The lots themselves are spacious and can easily accommodate RVs - ours is 22 ft but the ones surrounding us were larger. This is dry camping at its best - so bring what you need not to run out of water and have good batteries.
Because we were there in the off season - not flurried with the boaters - it was relatively quiet and we made friends with the folks camping around us. We didn't see much wildlife - however we think that raccoons were the culprits in running off with my wife's purse in the middle of the night. We did see a lot of Quail and Orioles and a few Asprey. But otherwise no 4 legged friends were seen.
The proximity is close enough to Boise that campers if desired can do day trips to the downtown as well.
This site has become a reservation only. We met a person who is a local and had been fishing in this location for over 60 years was advised he needed a reservation to fish here. We didn't really feel cool about that since he was 75 years old and just trying to real in a few fish. I did catch a small brook trout from the shore using a meps lure.
However, it's worth noting that some guests might find the facilities a little basic compared to some high-end RV resorts. There is a camp restroom that was adequate for taking care of business - there was a nest of bats near the bathroom but they were not an issue. There was a pump for potable water but if you wish to fill a jug it is a two person operation - one to hold your water vessel and the other to pump. But the water is very good - and the very best Idaho has to offer. Additionally, while the campground promotes a peaceful environment, occasional noise from the adjacent road and neighboring camps can interrupt the tranquility.
The Army Corp of Engineer staff at Macks Creek Park RV Campground were very helpful and provided a lot of great information to us. They are always willing to help, ensuring that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. They're knowledgeable about the area and can provide insightful recommendations for local attractions.
In conclusion, Mack's Creek Park RV Campground offers an appealing blend of natural beauty and basic conveniences. It's ideal for those seeking a laid-back camping experience within reach of Boise's attractions. Although there are areas for improvement, such as facility upgrades, the campground's charms more than make up for these minor shortcomings. All in all, it's a gem of a location that deserves consideration for your next RV adventure.
