Had a great stay! Loved the pickleball court! They have a really nice pool and lazy river that are both heated, and don't forget to check out the hot tub! Their store is really nice, and you can even get your favorite frozen adult drink there! We had a paw pen site and loved it!! Very dog friendly place, we walked our fur babies around the park and got to meet several other fur babies owners. Would highly recommend this park!
Excellent Safe Convenient Campground with Cabins. We rented a one bedroom cabin for 2 nights. It is quiet, safe, and well-appointed with a queen bed in a separate bedroom, 2 bunk beds, a queen or king bed in an open loft, one bath, a kitchen and a living room. Free parking right at the cabin, free wifi, a Kuerig coffee machine with some pods, cleaning supplies, ample towels and wash cloths. There is a heated pool, a hot tub, and a heated lazy river. Pickle ball courts. They have free movies and lots of other activities. Communication from the campground is clear and complete, without overwhelming you with texts or emails. They have a convenience store on site. It's a full 30 minute drive into downtown Galveston, so far away from crowds. Across the road from the beach. We have rented a cabin every year for 3 years in order to visit with friends who stay at the Campground all winter, we love it, will be back, and would recommend it highly. It's not super luxurious but it also isn't seedy or crowded.
This was our second trip to Galveston KOA. We were exited to spend NYE with them again, as they always have fun activities planned. The grounds are well kept. The sites are fairly large, and there are a lot of amenities for families w/ kids and our four-legged child. My one complaint is the age restrictions for their hot tub. They only allow kids 17+ to enter. That is very unfortunate for a family with two well-behaved kids, 10+. I understand the rule if they were younger and/or unsupervised, however, even with supervision we were warned to keep our children out of the hot tub when we were the only ones in the hot tub later one evening. We have been KOA members for years and have never had such a strict rule for hot tubs. The hot tub can be a great opportunity for family togetherness, conversations, and relaxation. I really hope they will consider changing this restriction in the future.
There are some core things that make a KOA stay positive: Cleanliness, Communication, Comforts, and Customer Service!
Galveston KOA checks all the boxes. It is clean, with a great system for their showers and rest rooms. They have great communication with a daily text, which is sometimes even personalized. The people are all very friendly AND activities and amenities are all top notch. Great job! This KOA does make it a GREAT DAY- because every day is a great day at KOA!
Well, let me tell you about our delightful stay at Galveston KOA. It's a real gem if you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience by the "mostly full-timers" who apparently run the place. Oh sure, it's a great place to stay if you don't mind feeling like an outsider in your own vacation spot. I can assure you, our short weekend trip was a BLIP IN YOUR VACATION RADAR.
We had the audacity to bring our three, well behaved children to this supposedly family-friendly campground. Silly us, thinking we could use the empty pool and hot tub like any other paying guests. But nope, within minutes of quietly enjoying ourselves in a EMPTY hot the area, we were asked to leave by a worker. We were told we could enjoy the pool. In windy weather in the 40s. Thanks. But no thanks. We have young children and THAT is more a risk to their health than a large tub that is the same temperature as their bath water.
Of course, we left immediately, because who wants to stick around where they're clearly not wanted? But oh no, the passive-aggressive pettiness didn't end there. Within moments of escaping back to our camper in the cold, windy weather, we received a campground-wide text alerting all that NO CHILDREN should be near the hot tub.
Oh, and here's a little nugget of information for you: Mayo Clinic doesn't outright ban children from using hot tubs, but they do have some recommendations. They advise against infants and toddlers using hot tubs altogether, and older children are suggested to limit their time to no more than 20 minutes at a stretch (we had been in for about 3 minutes). But hey, who needs expert medical advice when you have Galveston KOA setting the rules, right?
And you know what's truly ironic? We've actually had a decent stay at Galveston KOA before. We thought it could be our go-to spot for family vacations. But oh, how quickly things change. We had hoped to continue enjoying our time here, but this whole passive aggressive text message debacle was just overkill. Such a shame.
