Iron City Campground is located within the Chalk Creek Canyon, which is one of the valley's most popular areas. This is a small campground with 15 campsites. It is located near the historic townsite of St. Elmo. The historic Iron City cemetery is located on the east end of the campground. An interpretive sign at the entrance to the cemetery provides information on the early settlers and miners who are buried there. Camping and campfires are restricted in the Chalk Creek Canyon to developed campgrounds only. Campers who are unable to find a campsite in one of the four developed campground may camp above the townsite of St. Elmo on County Road 267. Please note, vault toilet is available only during peak season
In Nathrop, CO, at intersection of US Rt. 285 and County Rt. 162, take Rt. 162 west 17.8 miles to campground sign (County Rt. 292). Turn right at sign onto Rt. 292 and go 0.4 miles to campground.
Nice campground pretty quiet. One thing though there were a lot of mosquitoes so bring the bug spray, very nice scenery. Also there is a small grave yard on the east side of the campground pretty unique.
Awesome but small Campground located near St. Elmo (15 sites total). 20$ a night to stay, clean sites and camp toilet, and firewood for sale. We love the wooded sites and access to Chalk Creek.
Great small campground! Can fit up to 28ft+ campers toy haulers just check with Host what sites will!
GPS will want you to take the right fork off of chalk creek rd. Don't, take the left one as if you were going to St Elmo. The right fork is pretty messy and you will get stuck if you don't have enough ground clearance.
Great little Campground near St. Elmo. There are 15 sites to choose from. We stayed in #15, which according to the camp host, is the most popular spot. It looked like it. The site had white rocks arranged in lots of neat patterns; circles, lines, and trail markers. This site is also across the road from the Iron City Cemetery. Go check it out when you stay.
The sites are one both sides of the road so you will get road noise from the off road vehicles that like to play in the area.
There is only one toilet and it's near the camp host. It's a bit of a walk from either entrance, but it's very clean and not stinky.
