There are several harsh reviews of Chocolay RV. I rated it 5 for what it is. If you came there because you wanted lush grass, trees for shade, strong WiFi, a great pool and playground for the kids, with a staff to answer your every need, you just picked the wrong camp. Chocolay is a camp carved out of a lot near the NMU golf course. It has long pull throughs, full hookups and private showers which are clean. There isn’t WiFi. We used our cell phones for hookups. The laundry has 2 washers and 2 dryers at a much lower cost than we found in Marquette. You choose your own site. Those who complained the the sites were too close together should have chosen a different one. There were a couple of sites that were close but most were as wide as what I have seen in my 25 years of RVing. I saw a review claiming terrible dust from the road. We were there for a week and didn’t see any dust. The road and sites are mostly pebbles and cobbles, with scattered grass around. Paul is almost never in the office. He is reachable by phone and will drop by to be paid (cash or check only). He is building a house close by. If you have a question ask others in the camp. They were very helpful. The camp was quiet and the site we picked was level. If you don’t need all that other stuff, Chocolay is just fine.
Sites are very close together and none of the RV sites had shade…Kinda pricey for what you get… we stopped for two nights on the way up to Copper Harbor and would possibly stay again…. But for just one night if the price was cheaper…
When we got there, there was nobody in the office and it took us a good 15 minutes to figure out which campsite we were at (they don’t assign campsites when you book online).
Would recommend if you are traveling and need a last minute place to stop for the night.
Great location near Harvey and Marquette. We had great conversations with Paul the owner and Mike the Brother in law. This is a newer camp ground so there is not much tree coverage. But there was plenty of room with alot of Sites having full hook ups. The walking trails don't require leashes which gave our dog plenty of space to run and play. This campground is very close to the NMU golf course and the iron ore Bike trail system. We will for sure be returning for years to come.
This is a great RV Park. It’s in it’s infancy, only two years old. It’s a work in progress with the owners adding better fire rings, more picnic tables, grass etc. There is not a lot of shade but very quiet with a lot of walking trails. It’s in a wonderful area. The showers & laundry room are nice. I did two loads of laundry for only $5. I was able to dry my clothes with only having to put the initial start up $’s. Other laundry mats I have had to continually feed quarters into the dryers to get the clothes dry. Plus if you’re a golfer there is a beautiful golf course right next door. We had great wifi reception. Owner are friendly & accommodating. Nice tent camping area. Their rates are reasonable. My husband & I plan on staying here again when in the area.
