Castle Rock State Park is located along the west bank of the Rock River in Ogle County, three miles south of Oregon, on Ill. Rt. 2. Castle Rock camping is centrally located in the Rock River Hills region of Illinois, and its rolling topography is drained by the Rock River. The park is representative of the Rock River Hills area with rock formations, ravines and unique northern plant associations. A sandstone bluff, adjacent to the river, has given the park its name.
Wide trails and quiet park. A mile long trail with a little bit of every terrain. Keep dog on a leash. Nice large picnic area and old school swing set and an outhouse building. No water pump so bring your own water.
Enjoyed the little scenic area by the river. Have not explored many of the other trails but it's worth it just to see the scenic river.
We were only able to visit the lookout as there was hunting in the park. It is a beautiful overlook of the rock river. If you make the climb up to it be prepared for over a hundred steps upward. Take your time and enjoy the views. There are benches to rest on at the top if you just want to relax and take it all in. There is also another overlook right by the river which is a much shorter climb. Take a short stroll along the bank of the river. It is a great place to stop and enjoy the beauty of the river.
