We were extremely hesitant to stay here based on reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed on the side of the park with lower numbers and trees. (Site 227) The campground is essentially a well designed parking lot.We paid $45 for a perfectly fine site for our purpose which was to be close to the arch for our tour the next day. We had full hookups (no picnic table). Check different sites for price. They definitely vary. The bathrooms, unlike reports from many were very nice and clean. We had dinner at the casino. There is a small food court, a sit down restaurant and a sports bar with pub food. We had a great meal at the sports bar. Area looks sketchy upon arrival but we felt very safe once we were in the park. We parked our class B in the casino lot the next day over by the train stop and walked an easy mile and a quarter over the bridge to the arch. We would stay here again.
Like many people, I was concerned about safety in this area, especially with no one in the office. There is a campground host and I did see security driving through. It is a pretty good distance from the casino to the campground gate and very visible. A code is required for the gate and there is a high perimeter fence. We felt comfortable once we understood the layout. Sites are roomy and level, and the location is excellent. We drove to the far side of the casino with a free parking lot for riding the train. A $5 pass takes you anywhere all day. We chose to Uber back after dark staying on the cautious side. There were lots of events in town, so it was mostly full. We are in a 40’ class A and did not use the bath or laundry facilities. We will stay here again without hesitation.
Location, location, location! This park is not that much more expensive than other parks more than 30 miles away. The sites for big rigs are cement and gravel, no green space, but then we weren't there to hang out at the park, we wanted to see St Louis. It was convenient to catch the train right next to the casino parking lot. $5 for all day round trip. The Arch is the next stop from where you get on at the casino. If you prefer, you can walk (or bike) across the bridge right from the train station. Take the stairs or elevator to the train platform and there is a walkway up to cross over the river on the bridge. 1/2 mile walk across the bridge to Arch National Park. And the trolley is only 3 blocks away from there. Would definitely stay here again just for the convenience of accessing downtown St Louis. However, I would not stay on a Monday or Tuesday as a number of the attractions we wanted to see were closed.
When we first arrived we were a bit taken aback as it is just a parking lot with hookups. However, it was well maintained, very quiet (yes, there is a bit of train noise but not bothersome), felt safe and the bathrooms were clean. It's a short walk to the casino (great food & drinks) and a short walk, bike or drive to the Gateway Arch NP. We would stay here again if passing thru.
If you are accustomed to a fancy campground with many amenities this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a place to park for a couple days while visiting St. Louis and don't need a bunch of frills this is a good option.
