North Prong Primitive Camping area is better with flatter selections and more room to spread out. My second visit to the park for backpack and hike outing; perfect for someone new to the activity or a couple trying a first easy outing.

Good campground if you want a great view of the canyon and don’t care about a lot of facilities. With the exception of the family that rolled in at 12:15 a.m., set up camp and talked like it was mid-afternoon, the campground is very quiet. We were also treated to an amazing night of stars.

The trail into the campsite is very well kept and reasonably wagon friendly (if you start from the gate just before the parking area instead of the trailhead). The views along the trail and at the campsite itself are spectacular. Campsite and outhouse are well maintained. We camped back in the brush a bit for the sake of solitude. Per park rules, you can set up camp within 50 yards of the outhouse.
