About Campground

Camp high in the clouds at Manker Flats Campground. This campground sits at 6000-feet and offers 21 campsites open year-round. However, piped-water is turned once temperatures reach freezing. Each site comes with a spacious spot for all your family camping needs and includes a picnic bench, fire ring, and vault toilets. It's located within a short drive to historic Mt. Baldy Schoolhouse and Visitor Center where visitors can discover the land's Native American roots. Close by, hikers have several options to begin their day's adventure including, Mt. Baldy Bowl trailhead. This trailhead can be combined with another major route, Devil's Backbone, to reach the summit (10,069') to form an impressive 11.3-mile loop hike. For the more casual hiker, a 1.4 mile round trip to the 75-foot San Antonio Falls is available. Bears are very active in this area, so it is recommended that all campers use provided bear boxes, personal bear canisters, or seal all food as to eliminate scent.

Directions

From Foothill Blvd. in Claremont, take Mills Ave. until it turns into Mt. Baldy Road. Drive 12 miles north on Mt. Baldy Rd. passed Mt. Baldy Village to the campground. (Note: Foothill can be reached by taking Mountain Ave. north from the 10 freeway). Call (626) 335-1251 for current conditions and additional information.

I love this campground, it’s secluded from town and if you want to go explore baldy you can stay the night, very inexpensive we stayed here for two nights and we had the chance to hike to the waterfall nearby. The family loved it. Perfect in the summer and early fall, avoid in winter it can get in the lows at night time unless you into winter camping.

We visited this campground over last weekend Oct12/13. There is no option to book the campsite through online portals. All campsites are first come first serve basis. We reached the campground around 11.30a.m on Saturday morning. There were couple of unoccupied sites. One thing to note in these campsites is that the sites are not flat. So, checkout all sites for flatness to setup your tent before finalizing on one. The restrooms are equipped with paper towels, pit-hole toilets. The campsite is equipped with grill, fire-pit, picnic table, and water. One advantage with these campsites is that there is 11.5mi hiking trail just adjacent to it. We did hike a total of 4mi at our own pace. I plan to do 11.5mi hike in our next camping. We were not allowed to light the campfire in the night due to “high fire alert - Santa Ana winds”. So, we spend time inside tent playing Uno. Overall, we had wonderful experience camping here.

Great place for some free snow play. Was really crowded January 1st 2020. Took about 2 hours to get up the hill (same for going down at the end of the day but made for great sunset pictures) in dead stop traffic. And it was pretty hard to find a spot to park. Bathroom line was about a 30 minute wait. Lots of slopes for sledding with kids and some pretty steep ones for teens and adults. Overall had a fun snow day.

*Please remember to always "Leave No Trace". Pack in what you pack out. Help keep our parks clean for others to enjoy 🌲
