Camp on the edge of the Trinity River in one of 23 tent/trailer campsites. Popular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, Oaks, and Madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons. If you would like more adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V for white water enthusiasts. Those interested in a more relaxing experience can enjoy the abundant camping options in the area or head for the trail with your friends, horses, or dog. If you would like to stay at the river's edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning. The river can be accessed from many locations along this stretch of the Trinity River.
Follow State Highway 299 to Douglas City, turn onto Steiner Flat Road and go about one-half mile west of Douglas City to the campground turnoff.
Except for the grumpy guy next door who wasn't happy w our generator (making coffee - within the posted hours), I really enjoyed it. Host was a sweetie, easy river access, clean bathrooms, etc.
Very nice, small campground with flushing toilets, showers and potable water on the beautiful Trinity River. Quiet, beautiful surroundings, nice sites, and very clean. The camp host is real friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back.
Tent camped here 1 night on a late-June 2023 motorcycle tour through the area. Developed & operated by US BLM. Right beside the river. Well-maintained campground and facilities, including the restrooms/showers. Flush toilets, potable water system. Showers are free, clean & hot but you must first obtain from the campground host the current combination for the shower entry doors. Note the steep (paved) access road down to the campground. With my Senior Parks Pass, the fee was $5 per night (for 1 vehicle). BTW, it appeared that no utility hookups are available for RVs.
BLM campground located on the Trinity river. $10 per night /$5 night with America National Parks pass or Senior Agency card.
There are water spigots throughout camp, multiple dumpsters, 2 flushing toilet buildings and a locking door hot shower building (yay!)
Each spot has a picnic table and firepit/grill combo with a bear lock box. So many beaches right next to camp to enjoy. Kids were floating the river from one side to the other around the camp.
Grounds are clean, the whole camp is paved for driving, many can handle bigger RVs up to 35' or so.
Overall a great find! I updated the location as this is NOT in the adjacent trailer park.
Really nice campground within driving distance of many good hiking spots!
There were plenty of spots available when we showed up and you can park and pay for however long you're staying, only $10 per day.
The bathrooms and showers were really clean and well lit! You just need to get the door code from campground host, who was very helpful.
Each spot has a picnic table, bear box, and a fire pit.
There's access to the river right on the campgrounds, and you can hear the water from just about everywhere!
