Buffalo Creek Vacations is a family owned & operated business. It was our father, Harold Clackett, who retired as a UPS truck driver on LI, New York who always had a dream of raising bison & building his retirement log home. They built their log home with the help of all of their 5 sons & their 1 daughter over the course of a few years & then it was time to move. Our dad, along w/ our mom, Harriet Clackett, made the move to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in 1994, the night before they left it was said that they were heard singing…”Nothing would be finer then to be in Carolina in the morning..”. Then soon the bison herd was formed & started expanding.
We all just fell in love with the area & all that it has to offer from hiking & water falls in the summer to the beautiful foliage in the fall, skiing in the winter & new baby bison being born in the springtime.
It wasn’t until 10 years later, in 2004 that the 40 acres behind our folks came up for sale & that 3 of us guys, Cheryl along w/ our spouses shared the vision of expanding our father’s bison ranch & start building cabins to rent & invite others to enjoy our little piece of heaven that God has blessed us with.
With all of our knowledge & experiences combined, we have built on the property 4 primary residences (with 1 being a castle!) & 4 vacation log cabins.

Since then we have purchased 3 more cabooses as well. One is currently our party caboose & the other 2 are sitting on the tracks waiting for their chance to be brought back to life!
Every cabin has been designed & built by mostly our family as well as a lot of the wood furniture in all our cabins has been handmade by the wood on the property! Even the covered wagon bed, (in Tatonka Lodge) that was custom built our father.
Buffalo Creek is proud to provide family & friends with work as well. All of our cleaning crews are related or good friends of the family.
God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!

This place was so much fun. Our cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The animals were so much fun to hang out with. The best part was hanging on our porch while the Byson walked by on their trail. We loved the hot tub too! Cheryl and the other staff we met were kind and very helpful. We will definitely be back! It was perfect for our family.
We stayed at the Red Dog Barn cabin. It was clean and beautiful. The set up is a little *different*, there are no doors upstairs in the loft, just curtains and the master shower also has just a curtain and frosted glass that overlooks the living room. There is also no door closing off the bathroom and you have a direct line of sight from the top of the stairs to the master bathroom toilet. This was a mother/daughter trip so this wasn't really an issue for us but I can see it being a privacy issue if you want adult time and are staying in the master bedroom and anyone else is in the cabin. The Bison where just feet away while we relaxed in the hot tub! The view from the porch swing.. AMAZING! I really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Buffalo Creek vacations to anyone looking for an amazing cabin experience!
Absolutely amazing stay. Everything is so cozy and the views are a dream. We love the living area to sit with our family and the kitchen is perfect. I can't wait to book again!
My husband and I and another couple stayed in Red Dog Barn for 2 1/2 days. It has such cute buffalo furnishings. Even buffalo nickel handles on the kitchen cabinets! The buffalo roam right in front of the cabin twice a day. From the porch you can see a terrific view of the Smokey Mountains. Fantastic cabin, beautiful scenery, terrific experience, what isn't there to like....
Red Dog Barn by Buffalo Creek was, “Awesome Blossom “!!! Our stay was a dream come true with a country flair! Geese flying by, Deer flashing through the hills, and Buffalo Roaming by in the am and pm!! That’s right!! Mommy Buffalo, Daddy Buffalo, and Baby Buffalos, too!! We didn’t go feed them cause both my husband and I became very sick! We felt so blessed to have a little piece of heaven to recover!! A loving shout out to Cheryl for all her professionalism, support, and friendliness! Thank you for such incredible accommodations!!!♥️🙏🏽 Loves Texas, Thelma, Robert, and Bruno!
