The campsites are located on the right-hand side of the road. This is part of a trail area - camping is allowed.
Dispersed camping is allowed along the trail.
Dispersed camping is the term used for free camping anywhere in the National Forest OUTSIDE of a designated campground.
Dispersed camping means there are no toilets, no structures, no trash cans, no treated water, and no fire grates.
There are extra responsibilities required for this type of camp. It's a must to educate yourself before you try it, but we hope the adventure of dispersed camping in the Mark Twain National Forest calls to you!
Pick a Campsite and follow the Leave No Trace Principles
Camp 100 feet away from trails and water sources.
Treat any water found in the area before consuming it.
Human waste (Feces) must be buried at least 6 inches deep and covered.

A great little campground if passing through the Ozark Trail or just need a cheap place to pitch a tent. I stayed here on a weekday afternoon in July and had the place completely to myself. For being popular for those with horses, it was quite clean as well. About 5-10 campsites, many hidden out of the way, though only one had a picnic table and grate. Only downside was the number of spiders in the area. It seemed as though much of the brush and the trails through it were covered in webs and when I woke up, I had at least 6-10 red daddy-long-leg looking spiders on it. May be common in the area, but a bit disconcerting to someone who doesn't like dealing with them.
Way too much road noise at night. Big, diesel pickups flying down the road all thru the night. Only a row of trees between them and the camping area. Also several barking dogs all night. ‘Sites’ were a nice size, pit toilet recently added but closed for COVID. Ground of our site had trash and horse manure. Remains in fire ring suggested party site or just trashy people. Probably wouldn’t go back.
This is a real quiet place just off the road. The bathroom is closed due to covid. There is an abandoned tent with a notice posted on 8-13-20. We arrived on the 26th and havent seen anyone. Otherwise its a nice spot to camp up to 14 days. The road in is gravel and there is a giant pothole when u first come in on the right. There is a little creek nearby.
A perfect place for camping with horses and having many miles to ride. Been going there since the 80's, and ATVs have taken over my other beloved areas, but not this one.
