The Burns District is located in southeastern Oregon, extending from the Oregon-Nevada border on the south into the Blue Mountains on the north, a distance of nearly 200 miles. There are over 3.36 million acres of public land and it is divided into two Resource Areas: Three Rivers Resource Area, roughly 1.68 million acres in the northern portion of the District; and Andrews Resource Area, 1.68 million acres of public land in the south. Within the District boundary there are also large areas of private, other Federal and State lands.
There’s a trail behind the parking and lots of room to spread out. Relaxed under a tree in abundant silence on my hammock for a couple hours.
Clean well kept rest area with a trail to stretch your legs. Plenty of parking for big rigs and RVs.
This rest area is only located in the south side of the road (right turn if heading east towards Idaho, left is heading west towards the coast). It is ridiculously clean. All rest areas should be modeled off of this one. Pet areas is large and offers poop bags and has large grassy area. Parking lot is large. Truck parking is on far south side, car parking on side closest to freeway. Great rest stop on Hwy 20. Almost exactly halfway between Bend and Ontario/Idaho border. Well done Oregon!
