75 miles SW of Tucson. From I-10, take exit 302 heading south on Hwy-90. Go south about 35 miles to Ft. Huachuca, which is next to Sierra Vista. When you reach Ft. Huachuca, use the 2nd gate, which is the Buffalo Soldier (Main) Gate. There are signs to follow to the campground.
Because most of the reviews here are so high, I feel the need to balance it out. Our dog and several of the other dogs have difficulty walking on the rough road around the camping spots. Although I don’t baby my dog, I had to carry him once in a while. There is a sidewalk that winds across the camp ground and that is smooth cement. There are trails outside of the camp which are better for dogs feet.
We arrived on a Sunday and Monday no one was in the office because she took a day off. Another day, a small camper came in and wanted to camp but Brenda in the office said there were no spots available. That night there were empty spots available in the park. Just a heads up to be sure you have a reservation.
One commentor said that there was no gym, but if you are eligible to stay in this campground, you are probably eligible to use the fully stocked gym on base.
I hope these additional comments help someone.
Had a great time and enjoyed the view. Far enough back that you are not bothered by day to day base activities. Plenty of wildlife to see.
