Hot Springs resort is a very nice campground built along the French Broad river. On one side of the highway is check-in and the hot tubs and lodge. On the other side is the RV & tent campsites built between the river and a railroad. Sites are situated among old growth trees with access on hard packed gravel roads. There are several river access sites with picturesque views interspersed among the parking. The town of Hot Springs is within easy walking distance with a few descent restaurants and shops. Not a lot of extras such as a pool or extensive playground. Some noise noted from the highway and rail tracks. Recommended for a leisurely getaway.
Leesville Lake campground is a smaller laid-back facility that will appeal to campers that have a relaxing stay in mind. It’s divided into two areas, a lower loop that has shaded and sunny sites and an upper field that is suited to big rigs. The campground is operated by friendly owners who have put a lot of sweat equity into the facility and it’s obviously a labor of love. Leesville Lake is within walking distance and has a boat ramp and a fishing dock to drop in a line. Nighttime was quiet and we enjoyed our stay. Off-air TV reception is quite good with a variety of channels. Cellular (Verizon & US Cellular) was able to make calls, but had slow data speeds. The camp WiFi worked but only allowed e-mail & casual internet surfing due to speed restrictions. The owner was in the process of upgrading to Starlink for WiFi as of Oct 2023. Overall, we would recommend this campground and would come back.
Very nice, peaceful country campground. Nicely maintained except for some rutting in the roads on hills. Staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday in June and basically had most of the campground to ourselves. Lots of tent camping with tall shade trees, many RV sites and a couple cabins. We stayed at RV site 28, which was full service and had decent WiFi. Cellular is poor as you would expect from a remote location. Highly recommended this campground.
This is a relatively small family owned campground nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. Access is easy as it’s only a few miles off of a four lane highway (corridor H, Route 48). The campground is laidback and quiet and offers full hookups and decent WiFi. The owners are super nice and gave me a call before we arrived and told us to proceed straight our site as the office wouldn’t be open due to them doing maintenance. There’s a private airstrip located on site and I went for a ride in one of the aircraft they operate. Highly recommend a flight if it’s in your budget range. Bathroom with showers were nicely maintained. Don’t expect a lot of entertainment extras, come for the peaceful and scenic location.
