Campsite: Tom Sawyer's RV Park

This is a beautiful park right next to the Mississippi River. The facility is very clean, well maintained, and quiet. They have a back in and pull through sites. We had no trouble finding enough space for our 65ft rig and an extra vehicle in our pad. Sites are very level and easy to enter and exit.

The facility is a mix of long term and short term visitors with reasonable space between sites. There is lots of room to walk or ride bikes with local trails nearby and the park itself is quite sizeable. Each site comes with a picnic bench. There is also a lot of open grass area and two standing ponds which people were fishing out of during our stay.

For kids, there is no playground or pools, but they do have some fun tree houses throughout the area that can be enjoyed, they are very unique and a must for exploring.

Overall, we stayed three nights and enjoyed them all. I would highly recommend this facility for those who would like a quiet and enjoyable spot next to the Mississippi River.

Campsite: United Beaver Camperland

I read a lot of reviews on this campground and was suprised and a bit concerned by the view that it is run down and shady. For us this place was great. Freeway close, very safe, lots of nice campers, long and short term. We have a 65ft rig with motorhome and trailer and had easy access in and out. Lots of shade trees and grass to enjoy, safe walking around all areas of the campground. There was a small, older play area which my son enjoyed. The pool is no longer in service. We only stayed one night, but would definately include this place in our rotation of campgrounds to enjoy as we travel the country. The only thing that prevented a 5 star review was the price, I would say it is a bit overpriced for the amenities, but again, we would definately stay here again.

Campsite: Lake Ridge RV Resort

This is a beautiful facility in Hillsville, VA. We stayed here on our trek across the country and specifically chose it because of their Halloween celebration pictures. What we found was a large facility with a combination of residents, there is a private area, as well as a campground, on a very large, beautiful facility in the hills of Virginia. This facility is extremely community oriented and well attended by the local community. They have events campers are invited to that celebrate the local schools and other organizations. During our specific stay the had a Halloween oriented carnival to benefit the local school. They also had karaoke at night and a campground bonfire. One might think the festivities would be discouraging because of the sound, but the music and all events (if you do not wish to attend) are kept away from the main camping area so sound was not an issue.

The facility is kept extremely clean including all grounds and restrooms and is full of trees and nature. Staff are constantly driving around ensuring everything is picked up and asking if there are any issues or needs by campers.

Amenities include paddle boats, miniature golf, up to date arcade, basket ball and more. During the summer season they have a great pool and amazing looking water slides.

This facility is a bit off the main highway, but is well worth the drive. We were very impressed with the service and friendliness of staff as well as the amenities and beauty of this park at a great price point. We would definitely stay here again if we are back to Virginia.
