About Campground

The BirdHouse Yurt is known for its mountain view and cozy Maine glamping style. On 20 acres of bird and wildlife sanctuary Wild Maine provides peaceful privacy and off-the-grid beauty year round.

**Off-the-Grid**: There’s no power so charge up your phones (if you need them) and bring your battery packs. At the yurt the cell signal for most people is very good, (Sprint seems to be the exception). You won’t be left in the dark when the sun goes down. You’ll find solar lanterns and LED battery powered remote controlled lighting inside, along with solar powered motion-censored lighting outside.

\*There is an optional hookup for a generator under the yurt. Generator not included but sometimes we are able to rent our personal one to guests.

**Outside**: There’s a north-westerly view of the mountains in Roxbury and Rumford and the good old Maine woods at your back. Bird feeders, hammock, gas grill, picnic table, fire-pit (fire department approved campfires only), and let’s not forget the swanky outhouse.

**Water**: Guests bring their own drinking water.

\*In the warmer months guests have access to a rain barrel (with hand soap) for washing hands and extinguishing campfires and Two five-gallon containers of non-potable water for outdoor showers and dishes.

\* In the winter months two gallons of nonpotable water is available inside the yurt for sponge bathing and dirty dishes. There are some great all natural options for disposable shower-cloths on Amazon. The teetree and lavender cloths are legit!!

**Inside**: Yurt sleeps 3. Guests bring their own pillows and shower/swim towels.   Small Kitchen towels provided.

You’ll find a freshly covered futon with an additional not one, but two single, four-inch foam mattresses for sleeping. A stack of fresh soft comfy bedding is provided.

Pellet burning wood stove, with blowtorch and pellets are provided. We can help you light the stove at check-in if you’ve never done this before.

The yurt kitchen area has a small gas cook stove with tiny oven. The ‘sink’ is a shower bag hung over a basin bin. Everything you need to prepare most food including: Utensils, Kitchen tools, salt, pepper, griddle, pots/pans and grilling tools, dish soap and sponge are provided. Guests can enjoy complementary tea and coffee, the use of a French press, mugs and sugar.  Just bring your clothes, towel, pillow, food/refreshments and activities.

This is a bring-in take-out destination. We ask that guests do not leave any trash or food behind at checkout due to pests and wildlife issues. Trash bags are available in the yurt.

**Getting up and down**: drive in access except during snow and mud season. Go slow and make sure your car can clear the high spots on foot before hand if you’re unsure.  There are two parking spots at the bottom of the hill and the walk to the yurt is only about 500 steps.

Winter: Snowshoes Highly recommended for the walk in, once up to the yard you’ll have snow-blown paths. Snowmobiles and ATVs are okay: No spinning up the driveway- thank you kindly.

Pull-Sleds are provided in winter. There’s plenty of room for trailers out on the road.

Some assistance is available at check-in for pellet stove tutorial and luggage help, ask your host Mattie in advance.

No hunting or trapping on the property.

Town is a 15 min drive.

My fiancé and I had the most relaxing time at birdsong. It’s such a serene setting. At night we could see mt. Abram ski hill lit up in the distance. The yurt is very comfortable and well decorated. The kitchen has everything we needed. We will be booking there again really soon.

Birdsong Yurt is so bright and welcoming. We stayed during a snow storm and while the wind was blowing the snow sideways we were nice and toasty indoors. First walking into the yurt it seemed so much larger inside than i thought it would be and it was so bright and airy despite the dark snowy day. The pitched ceiling and skylight add so much space and light. The pellet stove warmed the yurt and the flames from the stove were very relaxing. The furnishing and linens are all comfortable and the whole place has this fresh peaceful vibe. The kitchen has everything we could need and more. We really enjoyed our stay. It was a fun getaway on a cold winters night. We can't wait to stay in the other seasons too. Definitely going to plan a return stay! Thank you Jeff And Shari!
