The drive up is beautiful, though I wish there were a few more spots to pull off and take pictures. I highly recommend reserving a time to view the sunrise/sunset! It was not windy when I went, but just make sure to check the weather ahead of time. I felt safe and I was in awe of the sights.
Sunrise ticket went super fast, so we decided to do daytime ticket for sunset view during 7pm to 7:30pm. Parking was very difficult. to find during the time, but the view was definitely worth the wait.
If at all possible go to see the sunrise. Very beautiful. Only negative were the larger groups of people talking loudly. Had to move to a different spot.
My wife and I came here for the sunrise and then returned later in the evening. We were the first in line to arrive for the sunrise on a foggy morning. Although we didnt see too much the feel of the mountain in the early morning along with the fresh air was great. During our morning visit the fog was so heavy we could not see any view points below and decided to return later in the late afternoon. Wow what a difference!
